Looking to replace my gas tank and I went through the FAQ to read about most everyone's preference of the OEM over poly tanks. I have a 6/80 FJ40 and I contacted CruiserDan only to be informed that OEM tanks for 1980 are discontinued.

What does everyone suggest as the best alternative?

Most people use the Downey nylon fuell cell (mounted behind rear diff) as their one and only stand-alone tank, much stronger than metal tanks!!! I've just sold the last of my current inventory to Specter Off Road and Marks Off Road.

Look for my PM about this.

what is wrong with your tank? rust?

I didn't think there was a poly tank to go in the stock location?? you have the later style under body tank, you can find used ones, I've got 2 of them, or go with one behind the rear axle, but then you need to move your exhaust as it takes the place where the muffler is currently.

Did CDAN say all tanks for 79-84 are discontinued? I'm thinking they are all the same thru those years.

Yep rust is the issue and there has been some
problems of water in the tank. According to Cruiser Dan, that entire range is discontinued.

Still searching for tanks, but somewhat out of curiosity: has anyone had any experiences with the CCOT replica steel tank?
