I don't have a winch, and don't plan to fit one.

I'm looking into the gaping hole behind the front bumper and wondering what to do with it.

Looking for suggestions and photos of what you (non purists) have done

I'm thinking I might fit a large Ammo case in there to store my jack / ropes / awnings etc, and also make it into a more useful seat for camping.

Anyone done anything like this?

We live near the beach. No winch, but to dig out....

I found this image on this website. A long long time ago when Con-Fer was in business, they made a box to go in that location. You might put a wanted ad in the classified section. Or if your resourceful you could make or adapt

Thanks, yes something like this! Not too deep obviously- don't want to lose ground clearance. Looks like a good size

If you can't find one and end up building one this thread has more pictures of how they were constructed.
Thanks, there are views from all angles there which are definitely helpful and give me a better idea of what I want, and what I don't want..
I'm not really a fan of how it mounts on top of the bumper tbh, and it doesn't look completely waterproof or pedestrian friendly either - a radius on the front and an internal lock would be nice.
It looks like the bottom is about flush with the bumper - I think I can live with it a bit lower than that, so long as it's above the shackles?

Seems like it's mounted over the top of the Idler box onto the chassis rails too, which seems a bit overkill to me - isn't the crossmember a better option?

That power steering pump is just asking for a shot in the face

Before I installed a winch I had a small electrical junction box similar to this one for storage in it's place. They are waterproof and can be locked. Worked well for me for the same type of storage you are seeking.

I made a angle iron frame to hold a HF tool box. Arm p[vot up to hold a locking bar made of EMT;
Wife made a cover for the box.

It has been some time since I made this. I believe I used existing holes in the frame. The rear angle has studs welded
to it going through the frame to nuts but you could just bolt it. You may have to drill holes. I haven't had any cooling
problems with a 2F engine.
