A friend just got a border/lab cross. That will be a good dog.

I have found the yellow labs to be more mellow than the black or chocolote(sp) labs.

also think about what color cloths you wear(or get ready to change).........if you like to wear black, don't get a yellow........get a black and so on.......

I have a yellow........so I wear alot of tan/kaki ;)

but IMOP there is not a bad lab to have........they are all great dogs :)

I have a yellow lab and a mut (border collie/german shepard). The mutt is the smartest dog ever. It's almost as if he understands the full english language. Another amazing thing about the mutt is he can sense what type of mood you are in without saying a word. If i'm pissed and walk out to the back, without me even yelling, throwing somethings, stomping ect.... he can just sense it. My lab is my boy though. Early on he was a little on the dense side, but after 1 year they start getting pretty smart. Smart enough to learn to open the gate and to open the back door.

from the dog bite website --

In all fairness, therefore, it must be noted that:

Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog. The owner most often is responsible -- not the breed, and not the dog.

An irresponsible owner or dog handler might create a situation that places another person in danger by a dog, without the dog itself being dangerous, as in the case of the Pomeranian that killed the infant (see above).

Any individual dog may be a good, loving pet, even though its breed is considered to be likely to bite. A responsible owner can win the love and respect of a dog, no matter its breed. One cannot look at an individual dog, recognize its breed, and then state whether or not it is going to attack.

Eric, i totally agree with you. Pits do get a bad rap. One dissapointing thing i see happen a lot where i live is idiots getting a pit just for the status symbol. Most of those people are scared of them in the first place, so the dog ends up staying in a 12x12 kennel and the only interaction it gets is when the owner comes out and throws a piece of meat of food over to feed it. Shame. That's when they get mean.

I vote for the German Shepherd!

Best dogs ever...

I think there's something like 18 pairs of genes that determine a labs coat color and texture. They are really amazing dogs! I have two blacks females out of the same litter. Wonderful temperments and great with the kids!

My Coulee Creek lab outa Texarkana was probably the best dog I ever had! She was black and English bred - square head - perfect hunter.

Personally, I think so much of a dogs temperment is reflective of the owner and breeding. Labs have been overbred stateside. I would like a yellow - now that I think of it because being a black dog in AZ sucks (I just asked Hoss and that is what he said)

I never thought this thread would generate this much discussion - guess dogs and Cruisers go hand in paw....

Well said Eric - well said......my neighbor being an example of the irresponsible owner!

Black dogs do suffer a little more in the heat it seems. I always look for hunt certs and health certs when purchasing a dog.

I found one of my dogs on the internet for free. He was a Drug Dog reject. He was 2 years old with a full millitary medical record and had everything done.

Good thing the reject is not driving!

Sweet dogs -

Now to start my search! that is a great idea!

What is the website? Whenever I Google "free drugs" I get all kinds of whacky things!

How much do you want to pay? What is your intended use?

square head labs rule :) I love the blockheads......which is what Beau is.

Beau is the yellow one, his buddy Bo is the black one.........

another reason I like yellow labs, there facial expresions can be seen better.......
