I might have the wrong vehicle for someone who doesn't like to spend a lot of money unnecessarily, but I have an F145 ('68 FJ40) and want to remove the air injection rail. I can't stomach the $9.00 price tag for each plug available from some suppliers so I went looking for an alternative. As with most topics on this forum there is a TON of info which makes it hard to wade through and find the relevant bits but I understand the plugs to be 1/4" BSPT.

A quick google search revealed some reasonably priced plugs: McMaster-Carr - https://www.mcmaster.com/9151K254/

Are those likely to work?

Should work just fine.

I like to use a high-temp liquid sealer on mine. Loctite makes one.

Here’s what I found the beginning of the year. 10 pieces for $8.95
I have a 2F engine and they worked great.

Jim C. Has a storefront here, he sells a kit for a 2F air rail delete, very reasonably priced with quick delivery. Comes in a Mcmaster-carr bag. Comes with some extra parts too

The air rail plugs fit my Late F head fine, assume they're all the same.
I forget how I found his store

I can't find any members named JimC nor can I see anything under small business storefront or in the vendor area for anything that resembles JimC :frown:

Perhaps try FJ40Jim (@FJ40Jim)

Curious those who's 68 had plugs when they purchased it l a single plug or a outer hex on the outside and square head plug threaded in the outer plug. Had my 68 since 7/74. It came with two plug setup.

For extra buck or two total nickeled brass over the steel would be my choice. Be sure and consider shipping, I buy a lot of stuff on Amoron all the time - I have nevered paid for shipping.

What type of thread sealer should be used on these air rail plugs?

Liquid sealant for high-temperature applications. Loctite makes one.
