I'm have a 1974 fj40 2f engine. The head has tapped holes in the head above each cylinder. Can these plugged holes. Be used for a direct fuel injected system utilizing the already present threaded holes at each cylinder? Has any one done this? Is their a kit that utilizes these existing holes so you block off the carbuerator hole in the intake manifold?

Probably not a 2F if it's a 1974.
Those holes are for the air injection into the exhaust gasses for emissions reduction, they don't communicate with the combustion chambers. There's kits for blocking off those holes, that's about it.

It's a second half 74 and is a 2f. Had it 40 years.

The picture below shows the plugs circled in red there are 6 of them.

A second half of '74 is still not a 2F, does your engine number start with an "F" or a "2F"?
I am quite familiar with those holes and plugs...

Note how they're inline with the exhaust.
The 2F wasn't around yet in 74...someone before you stuck that in there.

I'm basically the original owner. Since 1976. In 74 second half they switched to 2f engines. This one is if I remember a July 74 Build. Also I know it's 2f has I had to rebuild the engine twice once in 84 then again like around 95.

I checked with the serial number against the Toyota serial number reference.
This from the midstream sheet July 74 there is a 2f engine. I was surprised but I can hardly read the id plate. There is too much caked on grease to take a pic of the engine number on the block. I'll take some either to it or acetone to cut through 5the grease.

Well I was informed by a mechanic who I have tons of respect for. He said the holes were for the stock air tube. He told me not to use these holes as the design of the combustion chamber won't work with outing the injectors in those threaded holes. It was 40 years ago and I forgot I had taken the air rail off.

Note how the 2f serial numbers start at 000001 in jan 75.

If I recall correctly. Mid to later 74, July, August, is when the F started to switch over to a lot of the 2f properties.
My 10/74 "F" series motor has the 2F additions.
They are affectionately call F and a halfs or sometimes F1.5's on here.
That Serial number should clear it up.

Edit to add: my motor still starts with an "F".

Go to your homework. You have no idea what your talking about. It's the first
2f engines Toyota put on a FJ40 as they started to turn production into the 75. The side of the block has 2F has had since it came off the production floor. The serial number on body matches the frame and the 2F is on the id sticker on the driver side door puller which matches the serial number on the block.

Hommie, it's your chart, that you posted, that showes 2F serial number 1.. jan 75.
Sounds to me like you have a warranty replacment engine.
Like you said, your not the original owner, it had two years before you.
If you would also reffer to the 40 series registry, located in this forum, you would notice that there are roughly a dozen 74s on the list made after July 74 through Dec 74, that all have f engines.

Post the serial number of the engine, and you'll see real quick when it was made.
There's even a date code on the head.

I apologize to all. I can no longer read the id label on the door frame pillar. I tried to read the serial number of the block but cant
Get it clean to read it.
