Was directed here from a Lexus forum re '09 LX570. This past weekend, my AHC failed, the car was stuck in "Lo" and leaked it's insides all over the outside onto the driveway (I'm guessing this is the hydraulic fluid). I managed to creep it down to the Toyota dealer, which is literally at the end of my street. Lexus is about 12 miles away. Toyota was baffled so they called Lexus (we have two in the area, and they called the dealer I do not use) and received a $29,000 quote for repair. I knew this was going to be expensive based on everything I've read here over the years, and I fully accepted that when I bought the car, but $29k?!? I was quoted $4k for a conversion kit, but none are available because...parts. As it sits, the Toyota dealer is going to give me $12k to walk away from it. This doesn't make sense - don't get me wrong, I'm happy to walk with $12k - possiblyget into a CPO (or a Volvo). But again, $29k? Are they trying to rip me off? I have this nightmare they will fix it and sit it on the lot $10k over what they gave me and I'm out my beloved LX570. If anyone out there thinks "yep, this is accurate" I'd love for you to chime in. Details - 2009 LX570, 205k miles.

Wow. I do not have AHC, but that cannot be accurate. Did they pinpoint the failure, or just rubber stamp a replacement of the whole system?

Complete rubber stamp. I live in Cleveland, formerly Indianapolis, and have learned in two years that the Lexus/Toyota mechanics around here are subpar compared to Indy. They said they need to replace the whole system, struts, etc. The leak though only appeared from the back drivers side tire area... they are either being shady or clueless.

I own a '99 LX with AHC and despite the possibility of our systems being vastly different, I strongly think the stealership is taking you for a ride. I wonder if the cause of your problem is just a leaky AHC line or strut or globe (if yours uses globes).

Can you just delete it like on older models and get ironman or some other brand. Ironman might be in stock.

You can delete it. My issue is finding someone to do the deleting. I mentioned this to Toyota and they'd never heard of such a thing. Haven't ran it by Lexus yet

They are, for sure. Lexus, at one point, got caught in a lie about dinging up my bumper. It took a time-stamped photo (of my dog) showing the bumper was fine 23 minutes prior to the service appointment. They caved and fixed it, admitting it may have been a service tech. Another time they charged me for a headlight fix -it was still burnt out that night. Im sort of at a dead end with getting an honest opinion from a dealer, I guess.

$29k...that is hilarious.
Did you take any pictures of where the leak was coming from?

Did they give an itemized list? I'm guessing not because they have to be charging like 200 hrs of labor or some BS.

Don't take it to anymore dealers, ship it to the nearest cruiser specialist.

Theyre trying to dupe you into buying your car off of you. LOL.

In either case they dont know diddly squat about AHC and are probably quoting to replace the entire system. Go to a competent specialist.

You can buy another LX with similar mileage & year for less than your AHC repair cost.
Even at $12K?
What's the exact issue with your AHC based on their astronomical quote?

I didnt, but you can somewhat see the vicinity from the driveway pic (drivers side, rear). I backed it out when I realized what was happening, I stopped. Its the rear, doesn't look troubled at the front.

They gave me a parts list but wouldn't let me have a copy of anything else. I loved my old dealership and mechanic. The places around here are awful

LOL thats the whole system.

I know lol. And I just had a 100k service done. They said I'd need the struts done sooner than later, but everything else looked ok. I told them I didn't think it needed a full overhaul and they said they'd call back. This was yesterday- no calls back.

How bad are the lines rusted? That would explain some of the cost, but that would be like 5k total to replace. Maybe you can find some used parts from someone who took their AHC out.
