Hey all! Kind of a weird AHC question but ..... is there any harm or downside of storing my LX470 in the LOW setting in the garage for extended periods (potentially months at a time)?

Asking because we just moved our LX to our second home and I was surprised to find that it'll actually fit in the garage, but I can only clear the door in LOW (it clears by about half an inch).

Not sure if it's good / bad / indifferent to leave if parked in LOW, so thought I'd get y'alls thoughts.

Thank in advance & PFA

For the most part, not and issue to park in L or H. The 200 series has a function, as do some other vehicles. Auto low height, when put into parked mode.

But best, to not leave in low during long term storage.

Also worth a note:
  • Control arm bushings rubber cores, are not in relaxed position. Except in Neutral stance. Just parked in L or H; not much more than perhaps a 2% reduction in life of bushings rubber if that.
  • Rack & pinions, with rack leaks. AHC in L and or parked with vehicle tilted. Fluid held from leak, within boot covering inner TRE. The fluid can get into grease of ball of TRE. Washing out and contaminating,TRE ball grease.

My 06 is a 3rd vehicle in our family so it sees very random use. Sometimes driven three times a week, sometimes once in 4 months. Never really planned, just using it as is appropriate.

I almost always park it in low.

Agreed you'll have some bushing wear (assuming control arms were installed by the book). For me, that's firmly in the "meh" category. I'll take the convenience of low entry for my wife and kids over any minimal bushing longevity increase. 🤷

If you insist on parking it in the garage with the limited height then leaving in low is going to be your best solution.
If you park it neutral, forget, and back out, you'll have a whole other problem then worrying about your bushings, lol.

Where's the PFA?!

IMO it isn't good to store anything mechanical for long periods of time, avoid it if at all possible.

Yeah, it's not ideal, but it's the reality of having the truck in a state that isn't my primary residence.

PFA? Oops! Here ya go:

Haha yeah. My thoughts exactly!

In agreement, no big deal to leave it in LOW.

I would suggest a note on the windshield or steering wheel to make sure the AHC is in Low before driving it out. You could easily get a dead battery, jump the 100 and then it revert into N mode and "BAM!" into garage header.
