I have a 1993 FZJ80. The stock stereo is D.O.A. The best stuff is going in to replace it. I have installed a dozen or so stereo systems in several toyotas and hondas. I am just curious If anyone can give me a color diagram or just tell me which wire is which. I understand that there is a factory installed "amplifier". I plan on bypassing it entirely. If anyone knows what the ground, constant, etc. color codes for the deck are, I would appreciate the infromation.

Be careful with the dash, as cars get old, their dash gets brittle so be careful with it.

there is a great writeup in Slee's newbie guide. The link for this can be found in the FAQ. It talks about harnesses that are already there and a kit you should buy.

The LC is already wired with a harness to bypass the amp, you can get it from Circuit City, etc. it is a Metra harness for Toyotas. I recently used the amp integration harness, Metra 70-8112, which allows you to use the amp, but I am having some interference/noise issues, probably related to using the amp and line out signal from the head unit. Bypassing the amp will probably fix that, but I do not think the sub will work with the bypass harness.

Thanks for the Newbie Guide tip. It states that an alternate power source is needed because the draw affects the interior lights. Has anyone had trouble with this?

no added line needed. Within the Toyota plug is a Ign switched 12v and a constant 10amp (i think) 12v line. I have a Kenwood with 22rms power and it plugged right into the truck without issue as they are setup for that type of wiring.

Has anyone replaced the factory front door speakers? The guy at the stereo shop said I needed spacers due to the shallow depth of the original speakers.

80 series FAQ covers that ad nauseum, I believe. There are speakers that fit w/out spacers.

Yep, I just finished a custom 10" sub install a few weeks ago. I'm really happy with the way it sounds. I used plenty-o-dynamat to eliminate any possible resonance issues.

I'm not sure how to direct you to it, but search this forum for "subwoofer" for my original post about it.
