So anyway not sure why my last post got cut off.
So I talked to her husband and used my crazy mad bargaining skills to talk him down to....... $1450 LOL.
Anyway for the price it was impossible to pass up.
1990 V1500 Suburban 4x4. Lifted 6" with 35" Toyo Open Country MT's on it. Only thing wrong with it is a few small dents here and there, a broken rear shock and a tiny tiny leak from the 700R4. 350 TBI. A bunch of new parts on it..... they just don't use it anymore... used to be their hunting truck and they now use their trailblazer for that.
Guy was really cool although he didn't know much about the truck (bought it for hunting and his wifes DD but after a little while she decided it was too tall for her and they go the trail blazer and it sat in their neighbors drive for a few years until someone finally bought the house). He did however have an extremely jacked up 4 runner that he uses for wheeling but admitted he hadn't done that in a few years either, him and his wife mainly just hunt now and have 3 girls 1 of which needed a car and didn't want the suburban.
The rig itself was a super rare edition that had Chinook do some work on a few rigs from that era. So its got real wood on the interior as well as 2nd row captains chairs and all kids of lighting and at one point, from a little research, had a built in cooler (kinda like an edgestar) in the back. But that got pulled out a long time ago.
Interior is mint besides a few sags in the headliner and 2 small tears in the second row captain chair. Other than that it runs fine, although the steering does need to be tightened up slightly.
I was really hoping my new rig post was going to be a HDJ81 and that would have happened if the house sale hadn't fell through as I found one for an incredible deal. But it wasn't meant to be and i'm very happy with this super cheap purchase for the time being.
My cruiser plans now will be to find a 40 or a ragged out Bj73 and wheel the piss out of it... but that won't be for a while now as another new plan is to get a boat for the sound and luckily the suburban can pull one.
So my plan for this thing is to modestly mod the motor. Ultimate TBI mods, electric fans, custom tune and full on exhaust. 14B and D60 combo with locker in the rear, sliders, rack and armor, and 37's if the toyos ever wear out. i'll still be under 5k with all that done... LOL.
Luckily my daily commute is 1.5 miles and any upcoming inspections would only be a 10 mile drive for me. Once I become a certified general that will change but i'll also be able to uber or rent a car and expense it out.
Oh and the house is now back under contract with a new closing date of July 6th so Yay for that.
Here are some pics... long work hours have kept me from really do anything to it yet. My first thing is to pull of all the wood, which I slightly started. Sand it and stain it and then reinstall it.
In that last pic you can see where I started to get the wood out.
Also.... in a year or so i'll start planning a 6bt swap... LOL
then I can pull a boat and a 40 at the same time.
It's not an 80 and I don't pretend it will ever wheel as good as my 80 did but it will work for light wheeling and to but up the seriously ruttted and rocky trails to the good camp sites around here as well as take me down all the FSR from here to baja and up into Canada/Alaska
