I think Toyota did away with the center lapbelts on the rear-most seats around 95, changing the 80-series from a 8 passenger to a 7 passenger vehicle. While I don't do it often, I occationaly do have 8 people in the truck with friends visinting. I would feel a lot safer to have everyone belted in. Can the center seatbelt be retrofitted for the rear seat? Is the rear-most lapbelt the same as the middle row lapbelt? Part number?

I don't think my 93 has a center third row seatbelt.

You'd have to have a mini-butt to fit three back there.

My 94 does...and I have had me and 7 11-14 year olds in there, with gear and pulling a trailer on our way to Scout Camp. I will look at lunch to see how the middle seat belt is attached.

John...check your pm...

data point: there is a center belt on 3rd row on my 93

The third row center belt was dropped in 1-95 when the air bag face-lift took place. At that time the 80 was on a diet to reduce it's over-all weight because of an EPA weight classification. This is also when the radiator went from brass to aluminum and the ligher and smaller 343 (pussy transmission :flipoff2: ) was added.

Geez - you sound just like me. Gotta have small 11-12 year old scouts in the third row tho. hehehe

My '94 also has the middle seat belt in the third row. Used all to frequently.

Definetly post what you find out about this, I'm very interested in making my 8-passenger as well, I have had mine full on numerous times while 4wheeling and had to turn people away. Granted wheeling with 7 people is alot of weight, but still fun...hearing 7 people scream (I chime in too just for effect) :D heheh..

The seat frame did not change in 1-95. This indicates that the center belt could be fitted. If the vehicle has a grey interior the belt color could be matched. If the interior is oak it could not be matched as that color was not available when the center belt was.

A new grey belt lists for $52.37 and a sable one is $58.26.

I do not recommend or endorse adding the belt. I can't as a dealer because of the infered liability. However you can do whatever you like, knowing that it will fit but is not supposed to be there.

What happened to my middle belt then?

Maybe i'ts tucked in the cushion some place. I really haven't ever used the third row seat for anything other than to keep the pups out of the window.

Unfortunately I have the oak interior on the Lexus. How close the the sable color belt in color to the oak (brown)? Is the lap belt the same part # for the middle row as the third row seats? If they are the same, the middle row lap belt can be used in the third row.

John

The second and third row center belts are not the same. Sable is darker than oak but would look better than grey...........

um keep in mind the potential insurance problem if something nasty happens and an insurer figures out this retrofit.

To avoid this I would trade your Lexus immediately for my 93 with original OEM factory authorized federally licenced centre seat belt. :flipoff2:

Alternately, I suppose you might successfully defend a coverage refusal by proving that there is absolutely nothing structurally different between the 94 and 95 rear seats.

>> pussy transmission <<

You talking to me? Are YOU talking to ME?! Are YOU talking to me!!!!?

I sense an intentional escalation in the war of words and a further isolation of those driving the old style 80 Series from those of us with the newer 80 Series.

Your alligator mouth better be able to back-up your humming bird butt. :D

I've added a lapbelt to my 3rd row seats. Have pics somewhere if anyone is interested. Basically tool the seat apart and bolted (from another car) the belt into the same bolts that hold the normal seatbelt holders.

I looked but couldn't see the actualy attachment points or how tough it would be to add one. Looks like The Lal is the man on this thread...post away....

Hi Lal, I would like to see some pics. Do you remember if there is anything different on the seatbelts where they bolt to the seat? According to the FSM, the third row seatbelts are attached to the seat similar to the second row center belt. I am considering ordering the second row center belts since the third row center belt is not available in oak color.
