Anyone have advice on this? I was looking to put your basic 8000rpm in.
Does it hook up to the coil in an FJ? Have you had accurate readings?
Any model and installation advice would be appreciated.

Its pretty straightforward. Just hooks up to the coil, and usually also a power wire, ground, and power source for light.

I've got a cheapie SunPro 2.5" tach in my FJ40 which fits on the base of the steering column. Only thing it obscures is the high beam indicator. My fancy highly engineered attachment method is a hose clamp. :)

I have the same 2.5" sunpro. Power for light, ground wire and the last wire to the positive side of the coil.

Ditto, but I would get their 0-6000, it should be more accurate. Well at least for an F-2F.

Mine hooks up to the HEI, but that would be the same deal as the coil, because the "coil" is in the HEI.

same here pretty accurate

I got an Autometer tach. Got it at Autozone. It 's a low rev. only goes to 4k. Great for a stock Cruiser. Installed it on the steering column.

thanks for the info...will look at the sunpro and autometer. Do both lightup?

Autometer does and you can change the color of the light.

the Autometer in my 45 is MUCH smaller than it looks in the pic.

Here's one that I eventually plan on mounting in the dash and coating the bezel silver for a stock look. Brand is Dactron. Even the numbers match pretty good. Got it at a local auto parts store, looks like it had been on the shelf for years, Probly for a tractor. Even has an hour meter! PS is 4k enough for a 2F?

DocB, i like the look of that tach!. How are you going to mount it? I decided on the Autometer because of the steering mount. I think 4k is plenty for the 2F. I don't let mine get much above 3000.

4K should be plenty for a stock 2F. You wouldn't want to take a 2F higher than that unless its a higher performance build, particularly one that has seen balancing. Then you're probably good to 5K possibly even more (if you dare!)

To be mounted in dash, right behind where I'm holding it. I'll take it to a custom body shop to cut the hole. So far my dash is uncut, but for this tach, which will stay, I'll cut it.

i've got a rectangular digital readout tach, looks to be a cheap one... only refreshes every half-second or so, but it tells me where i'm at... and doesn't obscure vision in the least. mounted on top of the steering column, using electrical tape :)

Do you have a part number for that 5k Autometer one? I have been running the 8k one and hate it! I want to stick with the autometer one though. Thanks

I got this http://www.nhspeedometer.com/images/VDO/333901.gif from Summit Racing.
Mounted it on the steering column and hooked it up to the coil, power, ground and dash lights.
Calibration was a snap (dip switches on the back of the unit) and verified accuracy with timing light meter.

I have a sunpro on an F motor. Funny thing is when I get above around 3k it jumps up to 5k and is bouncing around. Whats the deal with that? Is it a piece of caca? Or did I hook it up wrong? I hooked a horn up the other day, and in the morning my battery was dead. SO i ripped it out and threw it in the neighbors yard. Horns are for hippies.
