Cruiser I've been eyeing is slowly slipping away. Can't find a local non rust bucket 40 to fill the void in my life/garage. No time (or knowledge) let's be honest! for projects. Needs to be fairly solid strong running fj40. Please shoot me a pm if you have or know of a cruiser in need of a new home.

Found this on CL this morning if you're willing to come to CA. No affiliation.

77 fj40 land cruiser

or this one. again, no affiliation.

1977 FJ40 - 100% original

CA might also be a good place to look because of our draconian smog laws. anything 76 and newer here needs to be smogged and cant be sold in state unless they can pass. you might get a good deal on one that failed smog here but would be just fine in MI and shipping shouldn't add more than about a grand to your cost.

Just a thought.

I did two FJ40s for $25,000 sourced and restored out of Colombia. Not an easy task and low margin for me but if interested in contracting one let me know. We start with a rust free strong engine truck then do paint touch up, new interior and bring all the mechanical up to date. This was a 77 FJ40 3 speed 4 drum brake truck. Top is fiberglass and stripped and paint matched. all new windshield gaskets and glass. new interior.
5 new tires on restored Toyota wheels. New Tokico shocks. New battery. on and on.
We are putting new non USA Aisin copy carbs on them. I drove this truck last summer and really enjoyed it.
had some imperfections but drew as many looks as a $60,000 FJ.

1978 FJ40 green. sold $25000 via contract to client USA. This was a rare in Colombia US spec model FJ40 and honestly I overpaid for it and then put a TON of mechanical into it. Painted it in parts including mostly new glass. we took the doors and the hood down to bare metal and paint matched. floors are textured and not perfect but is a zero rust truck or let's say 99%. Note this is metal hard top, front discs, fixed the heat. high miles truck good body lines. not an auction house queen but great truck. new interior. lots of mechanical work everything but rebuilding the motor. Need to find the picture of under the hood... new battery, new radiator, new carb, 5 80% tires, repainted the wagon wheels, new brakes, rewiring, exhaust, on and on. turn signals bumpers repainted. offroad lights and new stereo. can't find these US spec on the ground but I can find good FJ40s with the fiberglass tops or soft tops. I prefer the fiberglass tops now over the metal ones for functionality. Volcan 4x4, LLC is a bonded Florida dealer and all we do is classic 4x4s. We buy the best trucks on the ground out of Colombia then overhaul them before export using a great team. This truck had 1 to 2 month overhaul. There are no Colombian or dealer middlemen and all the investment goes into the truck. It is very very hard to do a complete and nice FJ40 for $25,000 but I would say $20,000 to $25,000 you are starting to get a decent one. Don't be one of the hundreds that contact me with the a $10,000 to $15,000 mid 1970s FJ40 that has 'some rust' and needs a $3000 tub and a 1000 hours of body and paint labor . Investment will be upside down and will lose use of the truck for over a year. I have fancier promotional pics but these are the regular photos.
