I spoke to Dustin about the adapter he has made for the NV4500 to the HF2A transfer case ('91-'97). He's dragging out the production of this because of the low demand. He's very busy with other projects in high demand and will only make this when business slows down--understandable. He's willing to bump up the priority and drop the price if we have a group purchase of 5. I'm one, so now we're down to 4. It's a main shaft that has been cut to match the spline count of our HF2A and a 3/4" aluminum adapter plate. No one else makes an adapter, so if you plan on using a NV4500, you have to go to a 60 series split case and an adapter. His price is $840, but is willing to drop it to $550-600. If you're planning on a swap, now is the time to get it. Once we get the 5 commitments, we'll make a $100 deposit each and production will start.

I'm interested, any feedback from people who have used them? Other than awd, any advantages over using the split case?

@mryanangel has one, and is in the middle of his diesel swap, so I don't know if he's assembled everything yet.

The advantage over the split case is pretty simple, stock is better if all else is equal. You also won't have to worry about linkages and levers.

@capthuff, you don't list your location, so I don't know where you are. When Hostess went bankrupt, much of their fleet trucks ended up in a salvage yard in CT, not far from Boston. Check out craigslist in Boston, I'm sure the add is still up. They had 4BTs and 6BTs, maybe a few with the p-pump too. Edit: here it is.

I have the first NV4500 / HF2AV adapter plate and resplined 2wd mainshaft. I just got my 6BT back from the diesel shop that I had do a full rebuild. I am still waiting for Dustin to send me back my modified wiring harness, then everything will go together.

Since everyone loves pics...here is my fresh juiced up 6BT waiting for the heart transplant.

Also if we make a deposit for this what kind of delivery time has Dustin committed too?

When I spoke to Dustin, he was very frank. He has big fish projects going on and that's his focus--understandable. It's very labor intensive to set up everything to make one of these adapters and he won't sell very many. Much of the quoted price is not mill time, it's set-up time. However, if he's making 5 of them, the price obviously comes down. If he's making one, he'll do it between projects and the his time commitment will be uncertain. However, if he's making a few of them, the priority and time frame becomes more exact. I know this is a long-winded answer, but the larger the group buy, the quicker he'll move it up on the priority list (and the price comes down). However, if I go to him with 5 commitments, I'll get a quote (time line and price), but if he only gets one deposit, he'll be pissed and slip it to the bottom of the priority list.

Is this Dustin of Allmaras Machine fame? After all of the "do not do business with this guy" threads on at least five different forums you guys are willing to give this guy money without a time line guarantee on his end?

As the OP, I'm well aware of the issues on this board and others. I'm also aware that his work is good quality. I don't doubt nor discount any prior dealings with him, but this is business and he's the only one making this adapter. There have been satisfied customers too. If someone else wants to step up and give him a little competition, come on in, the water's warm...free market and capitalism.

However, I take exception to your comment. I never stated nor implied we collect a sack of money and throw it at him with no commitment. Quite the contrary, please reread my post. Once we get a "group", we (or I) go to him to negotiate a group purchase which includes a time frame and price. Not to be repetitive, but I was very clear that there is more protection and a better price when there is collective bargaining.

I am currently on the road, heading back frmm Nashville. These are the pics I have on my phone. If anyone wants other specific pics I can get them when I get back to NJ.

I don't doubt your good intentions, but I can direct you to three different threads where people have paid over $5k to Allmaras Machine and after months and months of no communication, credit card disputes, paypal disputes, contacting attorney's, etc. They were still without the parts they had paid for. I'm just saying buyer beware in this situation. I longed for a diesel swap, but was seriously dissuaded through others experience. Your results may vary, but after years watching vendor troubles, I've become very cautious with vendors with known "issues."

I agree, with jits. I would almost and may just forgo the chance of fitting the AWD case for a split case just to avoid any issues like that.

OK so I was looking at those pictures of the adapter. Does that bolt onto the Dodge extension housing?

Yes, that adapter bolts to the extension housing and the xfer case bolts to the adapter plate.

Instead of machining an adapter to mate the trans output shaft to the xfer case input, Dustin felt a stronger setup would be to replace the 4wd main shaft with a new 2WD NV4500 main shaft which is about 6 or so inches longer. This extra length is then cut down to the appropriate length and re-splined for the HF2AV. This setup allows the new main shaft to travel through the adapter plate and mate into the xfer case directly.

As a side note...a package arrive from Dustin today...It must be my wiring harness..the final piece to the puzzle

How I so would love to believe you but that saying of 'Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me' keeps playing over and over in my head. One of the reasons I decided to do a GM V8 swap was the drama associated with this one. I guess BUYER BEWARE is all one can reinforce.

i sincerely hope you can pull this off and everyone performs as expected !

Regards….

Well with you being close to Portland you would be in the perfect spot to go get you kit or adapter or what have you in person. I only recommend parts from him you you are close enough to go get them your self.
