Sorry to bump a thread from last year, but did this group guy ever happen? I'm pretty interested in this, but as many have posted over and over again I'm very leery of doing business with Dustin. I'm not interested in his big diesel kit for the 80 just the "kit" discussed in this thread.
There is no way in hell I would trust Dustin with group buy money, he can barely get a $5k kit out the door, what do you think will happen when he has $30k in orders? Money is his weakness. Remember the LED group buys a couple years ago?? Anyone who gives him money at this point should know the risks involved.
No, I totally get it but $100 deposit is a much lower risk in my book.

There are a few of us, and none of us are to that point in the project, so yes it's still open. When someone is ready to pull the trigger, we'll make the deposits and close the buy.
I've spoken to Dustin about this adapter he makes and he told me he'll get around to it when he can. He was very frank, fabbing a single piece is often more work than it's worth. His top priorities are large orders, and I can understand it. When I asked him about a group buy, he said that will bump it up on the priority scale since set-ups are a significant part of the cost, it makes more sense to make 5 rather than 1. I'm not defending past transaction, I'm just saying large orders get priority over single orders. As for the cost, I have no hesitation putting down a deposit rather than 100% upfront. There's also a guy on here who has the first adapter (technically it a custom main shaft for the NV4500 that fits our T-case) and got it in the time he was promised.
I'm not sure what you mean by leaking, but the adapter is a custom made NV4500 main shaft that's made to fit the HF2AV.
At this point I'm pretty sure anyone who knows what one of Dustins adapters is, also knows the background to getting them and the possibility of drama. I waited more than six months to get my other adapters but I got them. If you're not impatient to the point of being nearly childlike in your need for instant gratification, it's not a huge issue. What you end up getting is top notch. Let's not clutter the thread with endless nonsense. If someone doesn't do their research and is surprised to not get it the next week, that's their problem.

That guy is me. Last night I buttoned up my NV4500 rebuild and mated the HF2AV to my trans. All went smoothly, no issues with the adapter or mainshaft. I am very happy with the product.
As far as getting the adapter, I beleive I received it within 3 weeks of convincing Dustin to build it.
I drove down and picked mine up in person.
Well for a $100 deposit to make this happen at 5 I'm okay with that. I haven't even started my project but the way I see it all the parts I need have many sources, but this piece has only one source. I certainly understand priorities in a business so if 5 people puts this much further up the list then I'm cool with that. A one off unit was sent in three weeks so if 5 of us can convince him to crank them out in a month or two I'm okay with that. I'm nowhere near needing this but at $500-$600, I'm okay with these parts sitting on a shelf in my garage until next year when I need them. With me raising my hand how many of us does that make? The few of you that aren't near to the point of needing this, are you willing to move forward on this anyway?
@mryanangel that is super sexy. If you don't mind my asking, what did it run you to have the mainshaft switched out? I'm getting ready to have that done on my uncles nv4500 project. Except his is a 2wd v10 4500 that were swapping a 23 spline 4x4 shaft into.

Thank you. I rebuilt the trans myself, so no labor costs, but I did have to buy a bunch of specialty tools, which all in was close to $1000. I plan on rebuilding a few of these so it made sense, plus I like to do things myself as much as possible. Shop rates will vary depending on your lacation. Around here in NJ, it would cost about $1500-$1800 to get this trans rebuilt. In other parts of the country you might be able to get it done for $800-$1000.
One of the most important parts of the rebuild is to get the end play of both the mainshaft and countershaft between 2 and 6 thousandths. The closer you get to 2, the better. Doing it yourself you know exactly how much end play you have, whereas with having a shop do the rebuild, you have to trust they will take the time to get it right. I was able to get both shafts to .002", and feel pretty good about it.

If you are entertaining the idea of doing the rebuild yourself, I would suggest buying a copy of Quad4x4's NV4500 rebuild manual. It details every step very well. That along with judicious use of a camera for reference photos, will be all the education you need.
