So i have had this conversation with a couple people lately, Different companies seem to measure tires differently. BFG seems to come up short on the advertised size. As do many others but I have more experience with them. Im looking for a big 33 or a slightly smaller 35. ok maybe a 34 would be perfect. Does anyone have a tire that actually measures out to be 34 inches tall ? Not the advertised size but real mounted tire measuring at 34 inches tall ? To make it even more difficult for me I have 17 inch wheels so all the tires are measured in metric sizes and I can't wrap my old brain around that either.. Yes it has been broken down for me 100 times but I understand inches , 33x12.5x15 makes since to me. 285x70x17 makes no since.

I guess im asking you guys to measure your tires, I want to find a brand that runs true to advertised size, then I will shop that brand.
So if you have a 315x70x17 and it measures out at 33 inches tall thats what I want to know
Thanks

I use this for helping understand the metric size.. Tire Size Comparison
Also wouldn't it vary depending on what vehicle it is on due to weight?

I have some mounted KM2’s on 17” FJC steelies that I’ll measure tomorrow. Supposed to equate to 34”. They are not on a truck, and I think one of them is practically new.

I’m right there with ya on the metric confusion.

I think it also depends on the width rim you are mounting the tire to. I had a set of 35 12.50 Mickey Thompson Baja claws mounted to 15x10” rims. The tires aired down measured close to 33” but had a monster contact patch.

A narrower rim they might not have ballooned out so much. They might have been a little taller and skinnier

Nitto has true 34” tires. I believe the 285 75 R16 is 34” vs 285 70 R16 is 33 with the trail grappler. I have two sets on my 40 and Taco and have been happy with both for look, traction and durability.

look into a 295 70 17

Here is the size chart for BFG KM3s, per tirerack.com website.

I think you want a 285/75/17.

FWIW, the 285/70/17 ko2s on my 200 measure 31.75", so almost an inch less than stated.

Here's some additional reading. These are j**p guys, but surely they can operate a tape measure?!

Brand new, unmounted, 285/75/17 KM2.

33 1/2”

Speaking of tires...

Look at this 35" KM2, that has been sitting in the back of my shop for about a year or so. It was perfectly round when I rolled it to that spot.

Weird, huh?

All of them seem to round up (Maybe we all do for some things!). I know when I bought my 33 “ Firestone MTs years ago they measured very true to size and it was a deciding factor in giving them a try. A lot of the other 33’s were more like 32.2-33.5

Nitto Trail Grappler M/T in 285/75R17 are commonly referred to as “34s.” I have them on factory 17x7 wheels at 35 psi on road and they measured out at 32 3/4” 5 mins ago.
