I'm in, with my son. This will be a guys only trip for us since the girls are staying home. We are pumped! Who all is bringing midgets?

:princess: is only 5'4 does she count? The dog is short and kinda fat....

When do you leave? Not to say don't come to this, but would Superlift ORV Park be closer? You might want to look at going to the Southern Cruiser Crawl is it's at all closer; GMP is a heck of a haul for you, isn't it?

Sorta. Probly won't have the enclosed trailer very often anymore since I just bought a flatbed to carry 4 rigs. When I don't have that, I usually just haul my single-car trailer these days.

I'll start leave 01DEC12 and have to report to Yongsan on 31DEC12.

GMP is just a little drive; I would rather go to GMP.

GMP is just a little drive
500+ miles and 8-9 hrs is "just a little drive"? Superlift is about 150 miles and ~3 hrs closer. GMP is a fun place, but just makin sure you have all the right info buddy. See ya at one of 'em hopefully.

PS - If the chance of rain is high at GMP, DON'T drive 500 miles for it! Stay home and save your gas, your truck's life, and your sanity! haha :D

I wasted about $400 and a few windows doing GMP in a monsoon.

Yessiree - You were the direct inspiration for that comment Eric. Hell, Lorena never did recover from it, did she?

oh yeah. She wheeled beastly at the GAPs and Morris Mtn. plenty oh times afterwards...

Probably too late now anyway, but if you moved this ride one weekend later, to Veteran's Day weekend, it'd be a 3-day weekend for a lot of people. You likley already considered that, but thought I'd mention it just in case.

There was honestly very little consideration of the date. October filled up, so we just moved to the next available weekend that we had.

Nov 2,3,4 it is.

I am really trying hard to make this gathering. How many of you guys run cb's when you wheel? Just trying to plan ahead and maybe get a cheap handheld before coming down.

Golden Mountain is not a very big park so idk if you really need a cb there. That being said, I went out yesterday with a bunch of the Georgia guys and I was the only one without a cb. So I might pick one up also. You can get a dash mount for about the same price as a handheld from what I've seen.

I wish you could get a dash mount frs, a couple of handhelds are on my todo list. I just know when I really need them the batteries will be dead.

Yeah that's what has me leaning towards a dash mount. One handheld I saw takes 9 (NINE) AA batteries. That's an awful lot of extra batteries to carry around.

I have been looking around on eBay for something. I found a bigger cb shop about 80 miles north of here and I am going to try to visit them Friday to get some feedback.
The only reason I asked was back in January when I took my 80 out for the first time ( and my first time wheeling in a full bodied rig ) I was following a group of jeeps and they all had radios. The lead man called back and said this hill was knarley coming down. Well I did not hear him and in the mid section my 5k # truck was out of control. It was greasy and loose rocks but I still am pulling leather outa my azz. The guy behind me t-boned a tree in his 2010 rubicon at the bottom of the hill.

Just wanted to see what the majority is. I have two months to prepare and I want to do as much as possible for a good trip.

Here is the aftermath of his slide.

And the bottom section he slid down.

ABS was the ultimate culprit. He had a cb but was already coming down when he got the call.
He just missed hitting me as I had just turned right off the trail.

Yeah, I good bumper might have helped. The funny part was that no airbags went off, the radiator was intact and he was able to drive out of the woods and 2 1/2 hours home without a problem.....other than the front of his truck being caved in.

I am just glad it wasn't my truck. I would still be on suicide watch.

That's probably about $7k worth of damage to the insurance company though. At least nobody got hurt.

And it goes to show that just because you went out a bought a J**P doesn't mean you can go wheel. :hillbilly:

In addition to the Saturday night potluck, Lowe Toyota will be doing burgers and hot dogs Friday night. I'm probably going to try to do some chips or something too but everyone is welcome to contribute sides or whatever. We're working off an approximate head count based on number of trucks so if you are bringing 6 children or something, let me know. :D

Bring spare 4 Runner tie rods and a CV from a 2003-2007 FJ...I may have to buy them :p

I am hoping the bumper is done by then! GX Phase III is starting next week!

Phase III huh? I am looking forward to seeing the metamorphosis since last fall.

I just want to get my winch mounted and maybe a Spartan locker in the rear before then.
