AC Compressor of choice? (1 Viewer)

My compressor is making a crazy whining....has been doing it for a few months. I thought it was the clutch bearing as it only makes the noise when the AC is engaged. Took to 2 different mechanics. First one the mechanic told me the only way to see internal failure would be to open it up...which they didn’t. The next day the owner told me they did open it up and I needed to replace the whole system a la $1500...so I immediately felt I was being lied to. 2nd mechanic said the clutch couldn’t be done by itself on these vehicles.

So basically I am going to replace the compressor and clutch.

Soooo.....Denso? ($280 on Amazon)

I saw UAC on Amazon ($184), but the reviews on their other compressors are pretty bad.

Denso is all I have used in the 80 world.

denso, that's the oe ac compressor. and get a new clutch for it while your replacing it

I would advise that 'someone' open up the compressor to assess the damage.

IF you find small metal particles in the oil and inside the compressor then most likely you will find them other places in the system. IF you simply replace the compressor under those conditions...expect it to be short lived.

If they said the whole system, probably it is the condenser, reciver drier and the compressor, which I think is the way to go of your compressor got all messed up.

Stay with a denso compressor. There should be 20 embossed on the side of the compressor. Taco and 4runner uses 17 and corolla uses 15 and these numbers are according to the cabin area.
