@drowzyGX, this master cyl design is used in 100s, GXs, 4Rs, among others. It's really a pretty neat, albeit complicated, design. But, they all inevitably run into this problem. Time, brake cycles, and maintenance play into the failure. Keeping up with the latter with lengthen the unit's service life. Brake fluid is extremely hygroscopic, meaning it sucks moisture out of what it interacts with (including you and the air you breathe), and water in brake fluid causes lots of problems. Water can facilitate corrosion of some internal parts, and does not have the hydraulic characteristics that the system needs to operate correctly. Keep the fluid running clear by periodically flushing the system.

Thanks a ton @Zjohnsonua - appreciate the info! I do a flush annually (might be excessive, but it’s not too expensive and helps with peace of mind). Hopefully that helps. Good to know that this repair is coming eventually. Fingers crossed it’s not too soon since my truck just crossed 120K miles.

Annually is overkill, but it is certainly a cheap PM service. Make sure that flush is done at the calipers so that you get clear fluid through the whole system. That corrosion hits everything.

Looks like they sell an assembly with the motor and the accumulator and wire for almost the same price as just the motor.

Does that cover all the prices you recommend or is it still missing something?
it sure looks like it!

yeah that is correct.

My accumulator came today. I went ahead and ordered the larger assembly with the motor so I don't need just an accumulator, but if you need a spare accumulator I'm selling one here. $180 including shipping.

@bcomnes did the swap end up fixing the screeching sound? If so, still have the accumulator for sale? My dad’s GX screeched a couple times at start up this morning.

So the sound ended up going away after it happening that one time. The next time I was at the mechanic there were a bunch of ABS trouble codes that we cleared out, and I haven't hear it since. I guess I just have to attribute it to the massive rain storm we drove through maybe causing some electrical issues?

Ether way, I didn't end up doing the swap yet, however if it was indeed caused by mechanical failure, I'm sure this would address it. I do still have the accumulator available if you want it.
