What do people think of running a block heater, but no oil pan heater?

It doesn't really get cold where I am - MAYBE hit 0 degrees F once or twice. Mostly it will sit in the teens overnight in Feb.

Honestly, at those temperatures, I probably wouldn't even bother plugging in most of the time. It does cut down on your emissions though.

But a block heater would be fine.

During the winter of '42 in Stalingrad, the Germans lit fires under thier airplane engines to keep them warm. They kept their panzers running all day and night and wizzed on their machine guns to free them up.

But, by the winter of 44, 80% of the lubricating oil the German military used was synthetic. Engines and other mechanical devices froze less often with synthetic lubricants in extream cold weather.
