Curious about the air rail. My 68 has plugs in the air rail. @lcwizard had a 68 or 69 FJ55 that had the pump. Was 73 the first year the pump was standard and was common to when removed to weld the tubes?

Had one of the air cleaner fires back in the early eighties. Holley carb back fired and caught the oil coated foam filter on fire. Lucky other than paint the only casualty was one washer nozzle. I used the top piece of a stock air cleaner and sheet metal to adapt a factoy air cleaner to a Holley. Later located a correct one barrel carburator. Also dumped the header in favor of the stock exhaust manifold. Lost performance on the highway but can crawl up hills down to 400 RPM.

The air injection system WAS used in 1968, then dropped in 1969, not to reappear until 9/72. It had to do with DOT messing with the GVWR for political reasons to give the home team the advantage.

Thought the air rail system was for making that paint ball air rifle sound against the firewall....Learn sumpin' new everyday!

I learn things reading threads like these. Thanks, all.

It will be nice to see this truck return to its former glory.

Perhaps rebuilt in Canada? :)

Don't know about Canada. I was thinking I got one from a mail order speed shop years ago. Would of been for a early 70"s Ford F-600 330ci truck. I looked online, Amazon and AutoZone have them. Says it fits Ford, AMC and Mercury.

Sorry, I meant to say it was remanufactured in Canada. Can't tell what the core was.

Yes i did John.
It was a 68 FJ55. It also had weird inner front axles. They were 30 at the diff and the ball and claw outer. The first and last 68 i saw with air injection. It didn't last long. The air injection got replaced with Fuel injection and 100 extra inches of displacement

So is that 55 still around? Think I saw it last time there. But that was a while ago. Believe the last LV45s had the 30 spline at the diff and ball and claw at the knuckle. My 68 FJ40 still running the c ball and claw but coarse at the diff. 9/67 production date. For what ever reason the left over LV axles were used on the 55s.:meh:
