hey every one I have a 97 fj80. Was winding how to identify what motor it is or are they all the same for that year? And what has it cost some of you to rebuild the motor to stock spec. Mine has a rod knock or a timing chain tensioner slapping. Just winding what would be the cheaper rout find a motor or rebuild mine.

Was around 1200 for me to rebuild one myself last time with all Toyota parts. If a shop pulls it expect anywhere from 4k and up.

If you are in The US your motor would be the 1FZ-FE

They are different outcomes at different price points. Used you can find a motor for 500-1200 but it's just that. Used.

Rebuilt has a lot of variables but at least it's a fresh motor when dropped in. 1200 sounds cheap and may have just been the necessities. A good friend spent about 3-3500 rebuilding his with all Toyota parts but there were some tasks completed that may have fallen into the while you are in there category. But that also included machine work and rebuilding the head. A recent post with similar title mentioned slee's rebuild cost was closer to 8500-10k

They have been discussed many a time here. I can recall at least one dissatisfied customer.

stay away from them. they do crap work.

my 1200 was just a basic refresh of the engine. rings, bearings, seals and gaskets. no boring and only a minor decking on the head. i did EVERYTHING myself including all the head work other than decking. they are expensive engines for sure.

Anyone has experience with this supplier? Not sure if they use Torota parts, but 5 year with install warranty.

1993 - 1997 Toyota LC FZJ80 (1FZ-FE 4.5L DOHC I6) Engine

NO! I'm one of the dissatisfied customers. Engine blew a HG shortly after the "rebuild" they did.

Same thing happened to another local 80 series owner.

I also supplied a number of OEM parts that never made it on to the engine.

I can't recommend against dealing with this guy strongly enough.

Who are the "good" suppliers then? Looking for new rebuildable head.

Their price seemed too good to be true. Crap in, cap out I guess. I have time for mine, taking a class at the local community college or trade school and buying tools and parts may be cheaper!

DiOzOr: can you post up a video link of the engine noise you're hearing?

Yeah I'll take a video today. I'm about ready to just roll bearings in it just to get me back on the road. Pretty much do a half ass In frame like I do with the big rigs at work. I would be doing everything my self along with decking the head. Since I have a mill at work might as well use it. Been trying to find a used motor for around $500 just to put in till I can rebuild mine but everyone thinks these motor are worth gold. I guess it's a Toyota comes with the territory.

They are out there. I sold one for 400 in great working order with a hg done 70k miles previous to sell. It sat forever for sale in the garage.

Still don't know your location but there is a 255k mile motor in Charlotte NC for 750 at the moment. Still a bit of coin for quarter million mile motor

94 toyota land cruiser (parts)

Good luck rolling in bearings. It is a bitch to get the oil pan off. Much better off pulling it out. Take it from someone that has tried.

That's why I want to find a cheap replacement. When you tried did you put it on stands and take the shocks off and let the axle drop so it not in the way

Keep looking, you should find one. I got a used motor for a spare for $500 here in Michigan. Funny how it seems like when you need something, there's nothing around
