Finally!

I left finding and purchasing a powertrain up to my buddy who's truck it is. He had been going around and around with j/ys on 6.2's, ect ect. Today he clicked "buy it now" on a Turnkey 6L v8! He also went with a new 4L80e over the 6L80e. So now it is just a waiting game until Turnkey ships it to my shop. :)

Cheers

6.0 Iron block?

Any way you have the resources to weigh the old engine/trans vs new? I'm having trouble getting reliable weights on a 1fz.. let alone accounting for manifolds/ancillaries.

I would think you could find specs on here somewhere, everything is on Mud!

That's what I thought.. but without an exact list of what is being weighed the numbers don't mean much.

Can you weigh the truck before/after? and maybe get individual axle weights?

I'm very interested in the LQ9 but with all the heavy crap added to my rig an aluminum block is very enticing to mitigate the pork factor.. but I simply don't want to spend LSx money on this swap. If the LQ9 already cuts a moderate amount of weight vs the 1FZ I'd be happy with that advantage and just go iron block.

If the v8 is any heavier than stock inline-6 I feel it is mitigated by the power increases. I have a stock LQ4 in one of my work trucks and have towed 14,000lbs with it. One of the reasons to go v8 is because f how heavy these trucks get once built up. With the stock engine lacking in todays roads and speeds on an empty truck, v8 is the only way to go in my opinion. I have had several v8 Cruisers and nothing beats them, again in my opinion.

Cheers

I'd not be concerned about an iron block at all. As stated, the power increase more than makes up for the difference.

Checked your other threads but pictures are all gone

I'm not worried about power to weight ratio.. I want to keep the truck as light as possible for body control while still being adequately prepared for the wheeling I do. Aluminum block vs iron vortec saves ~80# from everything I'm reading. I'm just trying to figure out whether it's worth the $1-2k+ price difference.

Having rolled one, and already being disappointed in the on-road behavior vs stock.. weight savings has become something of a priority. Same reason I'll likely never install a real roof rack or RTT.

I hear ya, I do. I rolled a very nice v8 80 myself. It made me cry! :(

80lbs is not worth $1-2k in my opinion. And honestly much over 400hp and the axles start to become a real concern unless you can control your right foot 24/7! Not to mention 400hp will move a heavy beast of an 80 around no probs, like 80mph up the steepest passes in this country no probs.

Yeah, that's why I'm leaning toward LQ9.. and doing some research to determine whether a 4l65E will get me what I want. If that setup is already lighter than the 1FZ by any significant amount.. I'm sold. But, like I said.. I need to get weights!

Thanks for the info.

The only problem with that much power is being able to stop it coming down a mountain pass at 80 mph. That's where the weight savings comes in handy

Indeed. I drive my autos like a stick though so I down shift on descent on road or off. Simple valve body kit will also make it not "coast". Had this in my last v8 Cruiser with 4L60e. Works awesome.

There you go!

Well, the Turn Key 6L will be here on Friday, Monday worst case scenario. My friend who owns all this is showing up here at my place on Friday, he lives in the Denver area. We will be installing the power train next week and taking it on Friday the 2nd to Boise for wiring, tuning, exhaust and driveline work.

Cheers

We want lots of pictures!
