Sounds almost like a turbo... but it's not turboed... and it's a bit metallic.

At first I thought it was coming from the exhaust. It only happens if I'm pretty aggressive with the right foot, so maybe a small hole somewhere in there? I don't think so anymore because 1) it doesn't do it in neutral 2) the tone changes when the auto tranny shifts. So, transmission? Transmission fluid looks good.

Any ideas on where to go next?

thanks!

best bet is to put it on jack stands and use your ears to pinpoint where it's coming from.

It is your exhaust. This happens with some and not with some. This subject has been beaten to death on this forum and I don't think anyone has come up with a difinitve answer except throwing money at it because money fixes everything right? You could spend the rest of this month reading all the "whistling exhaust" threads.

Based on your profile stats, you're new to the 80 & here.

Ride a few minutes in another 80 with your exhaust/similar before you go throwing money at this.

Tons of people ask "turbo, supercharger?" - their 1st ride in an 80.

It only happens when in drive and under acceleration... so, not an option.

Um - that's why I suggested jack stands.... IE: wheels off the ground..

Hate to be that guy; however, put a supercharger on it and question answered!

I know @bryson has a decent whistle. Mine does too, but only just a little, and only at WOT. I still have the full stock exhaust including resonator, so it's pretty quiet overall. Both of us are in the SLHood.

My brother in law has an 80 built same year and month as mine. His has the whistle, mine doesn't. Worry about your likely to blow any minute head gasket, PHH, front axle reseal, dizzy o-ring, valve cover gasket, power strearing pump reseal, oil pump seal, front crank seal, the "is it my rear main leak or upper pan arch leaking" question, why is my floor wet, how old is the water pump, radiator, hoses and belts, etc. Now you have something real to worry about, go read. Oh and welcome to mud.:flipoff2:

I liked the whistle so much, i got a turbo to enhance it.

We have the whistle. I suspect there's a just-right bend somewhere in the OEM exhaust or in the headers. Shouldn't do anything more than amuse you when you punch it.

oem muffler. Replace it and the whistle will be gone. While your in there, cut, turn and tuck the catalytic converters and reroute the exhaust over the frame. :)
