I seem to have a rare 1995 4Runner. I keep trying to find info on it, but the community info is very limited. I dont even know what the actual name of it is.

Its a 1995 Toyota 4Runner 3L V6, Burgundy, Tan Cloth, 4x4. Premium Audio with 4" front speakers, 5 1/4" rear with built in amps, 3" upper rear speaker. It has a gold package. Power everything.

Any info on this truck?

Also, any audio info? Im trying to install aftermarket speakrs and the audio wiring is being a PITA.

Sorry, a bottle of wine and frustration with the audio created this post

what's up

You have to be clear on what you are looking for or asking, you might need to post pics and point out any problems.what info do you need?about audio check out Crutchfield for replacement units and speaker combo.:D

I had the same audio system in my '92. I'm surprised your head unit still works, those units were notorious for throwing belts in the CD player or burning up in the pre-amp. I think mine lasted about 8 years.

Anyway, yeah that system is a PITA to work with. They made it very hard to upgrade just one part, everything is proprietary. There is a separate amp buried in the dash under the head unit for the front speakers, and the rear speakers have amps in the plastic enclosures.

I ended up replacing the entire system. I had an Eclipse head unit, fed to an a/d/s crossover unit, a/d/s amps, with a/d/s separate speakers all around. I had to custom build enclosures for the rear speakers out of 1/2" MDF to replace the factory plastic ones. I also had a 10" JL sub in a custom box in the back, and I even hung a 12-disc Eclipse CD changer in the back in front of the wiper motor. It was expensive, but that system kicked ass.

Ah the memories...

BTW, if your truck is a "Limited" but it has cloth seats, then someone has swapped out the seats. All Limiteds had leather.

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly what mine had. As for my HU, it was toast. CD player didnt work, half the lights didnt illuminate. It was crappy. I was able to remove the front pre-amp below the factory HU. The front speakers work per say. Need to verify and fix the wiring to the passenger front speaker.

I was able to trim the OEM enclosure to fit my 5 1/4" speakers. Now I have the smaller little 2" looking tweeters that are needed. Id like to splice my rear tweeters into the rear 5 1/4". Is that going to be the easiest way to do that without running an amp?

My a/d/s/ speakers had separate tweeters with crossovers. I made nifty little "pods" for the front tweeters, they say behind the mirrors. You can see one of the crossovers for the rear speakers on the photo of the enclosure above. I put the actual tweeters behind the wiper motor cover behind those little grilles, right where the factory tweeters were.

You really need to put some sort of crossover between the amp output and the speakers, so it sends only the high frequencies to the tweeters.
