Here's a stumper:
the 94 sunroof (63201-60012) apparently won't fit into the 95 sunroof (63201-60023) frame, according to the parts lists I've looked at.

Anyone (@cruiserdan , @beno ) know, specifically, why I can't use the 94 glass assembly?

P.S. the 94 is much cheaper than the 95

I do not remember exactly but I think it relates to the number or perhaps placement of the mounting studs on the glass frame. Perhaps 6 on the early and four on the late?

Thanks, could be. I know there are four on the 95 (mine's naked at the moment). The 94's headliner scares me, and I'm not planning to pull it off until I absolutely have to.

Any thoughts on the price difference? The quotes I've gotten are >$50 apart.

I stopped trying to figure out Toyota's pricing strategy 25 years ago. :)

6 studs on the 95 (July production).

That's interesting, now I've got to look at mine (Jan 95) again.

By the way, those triangular corner pieces, which I assume are foam, are listed separately. Do you have pictures of your old ones? I'd like to compare them to mine.

I'm chasing a nagging leak, which I've (nearly) convinced myself is the lower forward drain holes. I have a Nov '94 (which doesn't leak) and a Jan '95 (which does). The '94 seals look like crap and it's tight as a tick. Its drains are really clean though, and the '95s drains are nearly rusted over. I've been able to poke them (repeatedly) with a zip tie, but that's nowhere near as good as a file, which I can't get in there, without modifying the drain hole. I really wish Mr. T had routed those drains through the floor and not the rocker panels.

I've read all the sunroof "fixes" everyone else has tried, and I'm convinced there was some Japanese fairy dust on these panels when they left the factory. I can't see how these things ever sealed, even when they were new. The only way they could have stayed dry is if those drains really moved lots of water.

And my sunroof quit moving last night.........

I DON'T want to have to take that down and go through it. It's also my DD.

I managed to get it closed (still leaks though) and need to pull the fuse.

I guess this allows me to do the inner tube fix on mine when it's down as well.

Time to order more parts......

Mine is a 96, built 8/1995.

i broke my original one on my 93' don't know what year i got a new used one from but it has the same amount of studs "6" it gives me a bit of rub when tilting up. I've found the leak to be the windshield. the triangular pieces..don't think you'll be able to replace those..

The pic I posted is of the original '95. The corner tri pieces are a solid polymer, not a cellular foam. I exhausted all options in chasing my leak but in the end replacing the entire glass/seal component was the only thing that solved it. The sun-baked integrated seal was allowing more water than what the drains were designed to handle. Not fun spending that amount on a stupid sunroof. The seal on the new part is a different design of closed cell urethane (foam type) in a bulbous form similar to the front inner door seals...versus the felt/rubber combo of the original.

Did you get any pics of the new seal? I may consider finding something to work as a replacement, but knowing what they came out with would help as a starting point.

I'm with @BILT4ME, if the new seal isn't the same as the old one, I might try to find a stock extruded profile somewhere. It's hard to believe someone's making a custom profile for Toyota for these replacement parts, especially since they're 20+ years old and the volume is nothing. The 100's have a replaceable seal. I wonder if the "new" 80 seal isn't the same one, cut to the 80's length. Even if it isn't, if it fits the glass, at the price it's almost worth trying.

@MoJ, that almost looks like the windshield seal. Thanks for the photos.

EDIT: I meant to say the material looks the same, not the section, of course. Interesting that Toyota changed the design after all these years. I wonder if that's to be consistent with the new designs. Have to check the 200.

Was the difference between a 90-94 63201-60012 and a 95-98 63201-60023 ever proven out, other than the glass thickness? I'm looking for a replacement and it looks like the parts yards are indicating 91-97 compatibility, usually without saying which part it is.

Has anyone confirmed 4 studs vs. 6, or any other compatibility issues?
