Hmmm, I thought for sure this was discussed about 10 months ago and CDan confirmed 96 was the only year for black...maybe we caught CDan making a "critical" crusier spec mistake!

There were at least two years for black. Mine is a 96. There was, I believe a 95 or earlier 96 which had chromed mirrors and door handles. Ughh

According to the catalog, black was offered from May 95 to December 95 as a "black package" that had chrome mirrors and door handles and from January 96 to July 96 with black mirrors and door handles.

This is not accurate re the later all-black version as I have seen a 12-97 in OEM black. I do believe, however, that the chome time-frame is accurate.

the only pic of the 93 is of the vehicle in the shade under atree..black or dark green s*** it might blue(joke) ;.) I will find out on the weekend the full soop and I thank everyone for their input!!!

Beo's right, I would have taken any color "with lockers." And I did, I never even thought about getting black, but it was "the right deal."

Canuck money...93 -$15500(firm he says), 96-$asking17000

Thats too much for either. You can get a 97 with lockers in good shape with about 100,000 miles for about $14K if your patient. Mine cost less than that and I have seen a few others with comparable deals. For the $16-$17K you should be able to get a 97 with lower miles. If thats your spending range get the last year of the 80 series(or LX450) with all the options you want.

My 2 cents worth.

That may be Canadian Dollars he's talking about........

Ok, closing rate is 1.2 Can $$ for a US $$ so the $17K = Just under $14K for the 97 and the 93 is about $12.8K.

I still think for that kind of money a 97 with around 100,000 miles would be better.

yeah, thats what keeps nagging me... but seriously, it is slim pickin up here cause all fj+ are imports like they are just passing on the duty involved in the price as well...i don't like it, but i have yet to see a stray from the price structure up here for these...

Romer, if he imports it from the us himself he will have to spend a wack of dough. He will pay 7% GST which he won't pay on a local private purchase, he will pay 6.1% duty (if they remember), plus he will pay $100 a/c tax, plus he will pay $180 federal import fee, plus he will pay whatever Alberta charges for provincial inspection. All that and he will have to travel from Alberta to somewhere that has an 80 series for sale at the price you mentioned an drive it home or he can buy it sight unseen and pay somebody $1000+ to deliver it. All that factors into the price compared to local retail. The 93 sounds like a bargain to me if it has lockers and is clean and sound. In vancouver they are still trying to get well over C$20,000 for any 80 with under 100,000 miles and an lx450 is still $30,000 plus (believe it or not).

Semlin is def right , I just got off the phone with two dif salesidiots from vancouver. 97 collecters ed,(headmitted he did not know what that was) with 170000miles, wants 22900 firm. ouch. plus getting it out alberta, means out of province inspection, at least a couple more hundred bucks.
the 93 seems like a dream!

OK, I obviously don't know anything about the Canadian market. I just did a search on ebay and your right the pickens are small. See thats the problem when you ask for advice, you get numnuts like me who don't understand all the issues. BRWNJ60, I wish you luck in your search

No 80s made it from the factory to Canada AFAIK. Only '96 and '97 LX450.

There are a bunch of curb artists importing 80's into BC right now with the stronger USD dollar so beware. One "private" seller in Coquitlam has 3 for sale in the buy and sell right now.

only the 97 lx450 came to canada actually. No LCs at all after the 62 died and no 96 lx450.

On the other hand I see that with the new year making 1990's legal into Canada, Crushers is importing a 1990 HDJ81 VX turbo diesel into Canada with 60,000km. A street legal factory diesel 80 series in north america. Stick that in your yankee pipe and smoke it.

How are the big end bearings :)?

So there is no need to convert it to LHD for US owner?

The RHD does not seem to affect Canadian drivers but US drivers usually must have the seat adapted to face backwards and then drive using a mirror :flipoff2:

And my big bearings are fine thanks very much :flipoff2:
