92/94 4runner cooling fan

does a 4runner have a fan cltuch system similar to an 80 and if so how hard is it to get at?

my brother has a 92 4runner with a 94 v6 motor in it with 110,000 miles. It is overheating on him when idling in stop and go highway traffic. So far turning the heater on full solves the problem. I said I would help him flush the coolant and replace the t-stat with him. Occurs to me the fan clutch could be the problem but I have no idea what system it uses.

Fan clutches usually fail full on don't they? If it's that, it would be kinda loud when revved up. Is the rad clean and undamaged on the outside? No clogged holes with bugs/mud?

Yeah, normally toyota fan clutches fail locked up. Changing out the fan clutch is cake, although when I did it, I also replaced the radiator at the same time so I just removed everything.

Make sure the rad is cleaned of mud .
Make sure nothing is built up inside the rad.
Mine got clogged with mud when it had a/c so we couldnt see all the mud.
It would over heat in minutes so we towed it home.
I felt like a jack ass when I found out it was just clogged up.
