Got a 91 pretty cheap, doing lots of PM, but dont know about how to fix the rear "Toyota Sag" issue. I Checked FAQ under Rear Suspension...Can someone forward me a saved thread on what options there are to fix this?

The rig needs shocks all around, so before replacing, I figured I better address this first so I get the right shocks to go with it.

Also...

Valve tick (V6 147K on it) from a cold start/rev by PO...noticable, but not really bad. Fixes? Cost? Worth it? Threads to read on it?

Looks like I just found an old thread... somthing about OME rear spring replacement and standard shocks is best option on the cheap...but handling may change a bit due to CG issues...

Still interested in opinions, and the ticking issue.

ticking could be valves, but im not an expert on the 6's. I do know most people prefer the 22R-RE-RET over the 3.slow. It could be a spark knock...

As for the rear sag. Factory replacement is best. you can get replacement springs/coils through your local auto parts store. I just depends on preference...

I think you will be happy with Downey or OME 1.5" lift rear coils, but I think you will be the dog-gone happiest with ultra soft rear shocks. Something like the Doetsch-Tech MV-12's or Bilstein 5100 series. If you don't understand why, PM me!!!

No real experience, but I have always heard 80 series OEM coils.

Good mod, but will need to do something with the front, they net ~3.5-4.5" of lift. So more of a lifted rig mod, not a level it out fix.

The ticking is probably the injectors. They can get noisy after high miles.

Take a long socket extension, put one end against your ear, then use the other as a "probe" to find the noise. You'd be surprised how well this old trick works.

OME springs in rear, shocks front & rear.cranked front torsion bars.likely a better way to do the front but it works for me & costs nothing

That is sweat, cruiserbent. What size tires? And, is the OME 1.5"?

Thanks for all the inputs! Looks like the OME 2" lift is a great all-around option... but at nearly $800 from Slee, well that makes it pricy. I like some of the other options discussed.

On the tick...it is definitely a tick, not like the slight tick I hear on start-up of my 96 FZJ-80 for the first second until oil gets up top. The PO said it "started" after a cold start, where she reved it to get it warm faster... mmhmmmm.:bang:

So, assuming it is a valve...dont know if it is intake or exhaust. I did the old extension trick right on the valve cover, and it is definitely there. Is it worth fixing? Is it worth NOT fixing? I am a mechanical kind of guy, but when it gets into motor guts, I loose steam fast.:o

I had the Downey 1.5" HD springs. Good ride and I only needed to crank a little on the torsion bars to level it out. These are not soft springs so articulation suffered but it rode great on the streets with Edelbrock shocks.

I now have 80 series rear springs. It comes out to about 3.5" of lift over stock. I installed ball joint spacers and had to play with the torsion bars more. The ride is a lot softer in the rear and I'm saving for longer shocks as we speak. With the shocks disconnected the articulation is unbelievable compared to stock and with the Downey springs.

If all you want is to level your truck get something like the OME or Downey. I don't think I would recommend putting spacers on top of the stock springs since they are already fatigued.

Oh, and the ticking is normal with the 3.0. I read somewhere that it is loud injectors. I've also heard other Toyota engines making the noise so turn up the stereo and don't worry about that one.
