I have a friend that is selling his engine and tranny from a 91 fj80.

I have a 72 fj40 with a 1f and 3 on the floor.

Has / Could this swich be made? I love the idea of EFI in my 40 but I dont know if it would be too much trouble to attempt.

Any thoughts.

Thanks,

Ed

Can and has been done in various forms you need the ECU and wiring loom from the 80 too.

Electric fuel pump and a few other bits. Gearbox cross member from a late 4 speed split transfer case.

Hit search.

The best option is the 2FE taking a 2F block and grafting the 3FE head on with the injection gaining 300cc over the 3F and a longer sdtroke and more torque.

Engine is easy. Or at least I thought it was. Tranny? I don't know. Length could be an issue. If the A440F is longer than an H55F you will have a very short rear shaft, and you will need to remove the center cross member and install a new one further back. Also, that FJ80 is set up as a full time 4WD. You might need an older split transfer for part time 4WD, and that will require a new output shaft (348-352) for the tranny.

The A440F is an awesome and bullet-proof auto tranny but it is huge. I'm new to 40's but I don't think there is any way it's going to fit.

If you want a DD and you could make it fit, I think you would have a nice ride.

If you want a trail truck, you could sell the 80 tranny and xfer case, pick up a H41 4 speed tranny and use your existing 3spd xfer case. just a thought

I know that the pilot bearing diameters are different between the FJ62 and FJ80 3FEs. Be careful there. Maybe this is why most people retain the 2F block when doing a 3FE conversion??
