I am considering buying this rig. But am most concerned about the driver
side frame rust at the front of the rear spring spurch. The owner is asking $1600
and looks like the rest of the rig is pretty ok. what do you all think see pics
and let me know

I have seen the pics and it is cheap........You could part it out for more, but why not drive it for that kind of money?

But I have not touched it. It the rust into the frame where it will be a safety hazard? Or only in body panels?

The frame rail were the spring perch attaches is rusted, so owner says it
needs attention soon but he does drive it. and both wheel wells are rusted
but nothing else seems to be. He did send me alot more pics and the truck
is very clean in and out other then the rear quarters. I am thinkin of welding
plate all around the frame and re box that area a foot in front to a foot
back behind the rust and then re attaching the perch. Should be a pretty
easy fix i figure and then deal with the sheet metal later and try to find
some good lower quarters in the mean time to re-attach when i get tired
of seeing the rust. Just food for thought.

thx

parts rig only, do not drive this.

$1,600 a bit high but not bad price.

i bought my landcruiser for 300 and it ran the person that sold it was retarded if it has the straight 6 in it it is good for 250,000 miles b4 a rebuild needs to take place i would say hell yes buy it your gonna kick your self in the ass later if you dont they are awsome at 4x4ing.

i live in a relatively strict state and that would never make it through our state inspection without a fair amount of work first. would most states out there allow this through the initial inspection/registration process - so you could actually drive it into the ground??

have you actually seen the rig?

i would most definitely want to see exactly how much rust was actually there... if you can't eyeball it someone from this forum might look at it for you (and buy it out from under you LOL). if the current owner will drive it, but sunds this concerned - that says more than surface rust and a little around the wheel wells to me.

check it out. caveat emptor.

Thanks guys for the input. I will be going to see the rig and test
driving it and there will also be a guy with me who is pretty knowledg-
able when it comes to this stuff. The pass. side had the same rust prob
on the frame and it was fixed and seems to be very sturdy. So i dont
think it will be a prob to fix the drivers side. besides for the price i can
do alot of repair if need be like a whole frame replacement if i have
to. I just wanted to get a reassurance that it is worth buying

bring a screw driver and poke it into those rust holes. Offer him $500.00 for it.

check the drivers side rocker panels, roof gutter, behind the mud flaps, corners of front window, bottom of rear tailgate (inside), wheel wells (inside)

If you can do the rust repair yourself it seems like a decent deal. Otherwise I'd run - that would be at least a couple of thousand dollars to patch.

With gas prices the way they are I think you could find a pretty good deal on a 60 or an 80 that doesn't need any work. Do you really want another project?

it is a wreck.
run, forrest run.
not worth 1600, not even close. I like the advice from beaufort, he is correct-500 max.

in parts, what is it worth?

-2F, if smogged and good runner with those miles (and a/c system etc) should bring $1,000- $1,200.
-transmission/transfer $300
-transmission crossmember (3 piece) $100
-drivelines $100
-dash top $150 (if clean)
-front/rear axles $300/set
-steering box $150 w/ those miles and no leaks
etc see the idea?

but, seats, doors, body shell, frame all must be chucked out- parting 60 series is no fun. You will not make a dime crating and selling those parts so run to the dump.

There are more than $1,600 worth of pretty quick sale parts, but not much over $2,000

if you do buy it, check the fuel tank for recall and replace if possible before pulled off the road- a good spare new tank for free or sale.

I bought a rust free but gently rolled 60 w/ 118K for $1,200, took the 38mm t-case and power steering box, sold the balance for $900 and the truck did not even have the 2F. Deals can be made....

thanks, i think with the welding help i have i could rebox the whole frame and all it
would take would be alot of time. Then i have a pretty good driver as i have been
told it runs pretty darn good. The rust really doesnt scare me and then i have a
fairly low mile truck i could drive for awhile and then if i wanted to sell it could
at least make my money back, looks like i'm thinking its worth about $1000
and prob would go that high but no more. A part out would be ok but i just dont
have the room to do all of that. thanks again guys for the input and the more
opinions i get from you all the better i feel about making a good decision on it

Well just to update anyone who cares, the asshat sold the 60 out from
underneath me for $1400, but i guess that is just karma, i really dont
like rootbeer brown anyway, i assume it went for a parts rig thats what
i heard anyway.......
