Carry spares and fix it.
By maintaining some resemblance of OE, hoping the TLC deities will show favor when, not if, breakage occurs.
To add, I'll drive the FJC, GX, or F350 ( if she's in the mood to be driven ), while fixing.
Not a DD, not a trailer queen, but a comfortable buggy with air and leather, fully expected to drive there, wheel, then drive home.
BUT, I'm thoroughly convinced this (PP80) is merely step two down the trail of full blown insanity, in true gateway drug lore, and a buggy will be in my future, but to what degree I can't even begin to speculate.
To impart a philosophical standpoint.
We live life with death the only guarantee.
Very similar.
Modify a station wagon, (for the purpose of escaping said life, with the intent of hastening its demise by expecting it to perform well beyond it's intentions) when, no matter what, impending carnage will ensue.
So shall the station wagon not live?
Shall it remain caged in the garages of middle class suburbia, all because the expectation level that TLC ( well, PP TLC, in my case) 80 off road enthusiasts have set remains well above it's genetic capabilities?
Shall it be deemed unworthy of rock donkey stature?
In the (very modified, for the purpose of adding flair to the dramatic) wise words or landtankius.
"Just because of a few failures (or potential carnage), I refuse to give up on the OE engineering and declare it a POS, in it's entirety".
I'm of that mindset, which is certifiable, no doubt, but feel an actual bond, borderline love, for the PP80 ( probably due to the pink panty verbiage added. Just something about PPs......) and don't feel I'd do her justice by waving as I pulled out of the driveway with a trailered buggy, until she's been given the chance to live, myself vicariously, through the trials.
No, I haven't been drinking. Bahahaha.
