I'm looking to get the OME 2.5 lift but I was wondering what everyone's pros and cons where before I pulled the trigger. I'm thinking about getting the firm as opposed to the medium. What is everyone's thought on their lift and what would you all have done differently.

Thanks

I have the heavys front and rear with only a roof rack for added weight. The first year on the truck it had a bit of "stink bug" look. This to me is how an expo rig should look. After coming up on three years and many times loaded to the hilt, the truck sits level. I personaly am very glad I went heavys right from the start. Just my two cents.. Go heavys!

851, 850 & 850J have all the same spring rate of 220 lbs.
They lift 1" apart from each other starting with 851 with approx 1.5" of lift.
860 is 220 lbs.
863 is 250 lbs.
To prevent stinkbug you will need to mix lifts. Example 850/860, 850J/863

Then you have the stock height springs that are stronger then all of them with an added bonus of dual rate.
861 is 170lb/250lb
862 is 170lb/260lb these don't stinkbug like the others.
To bad that OME didn't make these in a 1" taller version like 861J/862J.
These would be an awesome lift... oh, wait AutoCraft makes them just like that in 2" or 3".

What would I do differently? I would of went with the AutoCraft Slinky 50mm or 75mm lift.

what are you using the truck for?

ask yourself this question 10x and then sit down and figure it out!

Rock crawling?
mall cruising.....aka making it look the part!
overlanding....usually will require the heavier springs to support all the weight of equipment..
picking up the kids in a "cool" truck?
just tinkering?....etc

also, think about the equipment you want to dress it up with....bumpers front and rear....winch....air compressors....tires...all of these will pretty much dictate which lift you will need.

don't listen to other peoples' builds....build to suit your needs! could save you money or make you broke! your call!

OME is designed to carry weight, and I mean a LOT of weight--especially in the rear. Unless you've got a heavy duty armored bumper with dual swingouts, a drawer system refrigerator, roof rack and roof top tent, the rear OME heavy's (863) are too much spring, IMO. The basic ome 2.5" "Heavy" kit will lift the front 2" and the rear 4". This negatively impacts your caster angle (even with correction), and leads to poor handling not to mention a mildly unpleasant ride. Do not get heavys unless your truck actually has the weight to justify it.

My truck is minimally loaded (or unloaded) most of the time, 3rd row seats removed. Heavy's suck and stinkbug sucks for my usage. (they came with the truck) YMMV

Well my plan with this truck is a bit of a multi use vehicle. I plan on loading it out with a roof rack and along with front and rear bumpers. As well as using it to haul gear for work I work as a photo assistant and a grip sot the gear is heavy typically shoots here in vegas are either on the strip or out in no mans land and I need a rig that can get me out there without much of a problem.

It looking more and more like the OME med. thanks for the info!
