Hi all, How many grease zerks are there on the HDJ81 and where are they?? Pictures or diagrams would be very helpful. Also hear there are a couple zerks that you want to be careful with so that you dont overpressurize them,...which and where??

Thanks!!

M

On the FZJ80, which I'm assuming is the same, it has 4 on each driveshaft, and 2 on the front wheel wells, square bolts.

Actually, *3* on each DS, and 2 square plugs on the front end. Close.

The slip yoke fittings are the ones you heard about... Hopefully someone smarter will chime in.

OK,...took a look under the truck and found a zerk on each u-joint (4 of them) and a corresponding what i think is the yolk except for the rear most u-joint which only had a u-joint and no yolk (3 yolks). So that makes 7 total for the drive line. I also located the two square screws to fill the knuckles. I filled the U joints until all the old grease came out and I put 4 squrts into the yolks. As for the knuckles I put a coffee stir stick in them to see what the level of grease was and grease was pretty much smeared all throughout so i couldnt get a great reading on them,...I pumped in about half a cylinder into each. This is the first greasing since I bought it 10000km ago,...and i know it was thoroughly greased when I first purchased it. OK,...how did I do??? PS: Truck is an HDJ81.

Oh,...anohter question,...I noticed that there is a zerk on each brake caliper but the fitting for all the other zerks didnt fit for a quick double shot of grease,...im assuming I need a different grease gun adapter for those zerks?? How many squirts do they require and what kind of timing should I go by??

Thanks again!!

Those are NOT zerks, but brake line bleeder valves. I hope you didn't put grease into them...

Don't grease your brakes; takes long enough to stop as it is :whoops:

Too funny - but maybe if you really bleed the grease out and add new grease through the resevoir using a Motive positive pressure bleeder it would actually brake even better :D:D

Oh sheit,...thats why my brakes werent working,...almost took out a cat crossing the road. Hahaha,...just kidding!! I guess thats why they are a different size than all the other zerks,...hahaha,...otherwise i may have taken out a cat, person, mailbox. If its anything like the brakes on my mountian bike im assuming you would have to loosened off the nipples before anything can go in or out of it anyway. Hahaha!! OK,...6 zerks on the length of the DS and 2 nuts on the knuckles,...CHECK!

THANKS A LOT EVERYONE,...all is lubed!!!!
