Hey guys,
I have a 1991 fj80 and I just installed a uniden CMX 760 CB and a Rago fab antenna mount topped with a 3' firestik antenna. It is mounted just above the passenger side tail light. I have tested continuity and everything seems fine, but i have an SWR reading of 2.5-3.5. I've done a bunch of research and have come up empty handed. any ideas? not enough antenna above the roofline? too much coiled coax? Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!

I'm betting it's too low on the side of the truck. People who rear-mount antennas tend to place them near the top corner. At least one vendor makes/made a mount specifically for this, but these tend to be used for mounting various VHF or UHF antennas. A CB is going to be a stretch on it IMO. Plus would make for a tallish truck.

I mounted mine on my ARB at the front left side of the little wing that flares back at the bumper end into the wheelwell arch flare.

IIRC the SWR came out to just under 1.5, not outstanding, but acceptable.

your probably getting to much feed back into the antenna from it being too short. i mounted mine on the l/f fender and run a 4' firestick so it clears the roof line. check your grounds as well and any extra coax coil it up in a figure 8 pattern as best you can to reduce rf interference

How much coax did you run? I can’t remember exactly how long my coax is but it’s a bit too long and my 3’ Wilson mounted where yours is achieves an SWR of 1 or less. The system works quite well actually.
