8" diff replacement options (1 Viewer)

Hwzt all.

So, in my frankenstein of a build, I have a 93 LN130 chassis, including 8" diffs. Current diff is a G145 which should be the 4.875 ratio with LSD.

Last week I broke a tooth in my rear diff.

What are my options for replacement? I would like to put longer ratios in while I'm at it, like a 3.7 or around there.

I can get my hands on a 3rd Gen diff in a 3.7 ratio, an A02B to be exact.

What I want to know is can I bolt the A02B directly into my 2ng gen 8" rear? Or can I change out the gears in the diffs? Or do I need to find an 8" gear set from somewhere else?

This. As I recall the OEM 4.88 diff was an odd ball and can't be regeared with aftermarket gear sets. You can use the housing to install a locker with aftermarket gears.

I'm confused on the FJ40 pic. FJ40s don't have 8" diffs. Also, you talk about Gen2 and Gen3, but you don't say what? Gen3 4Runner diffs are 8" and are backwards compatible (except for gear ratio). Also, front and rear diffs need to be the same gear ratio.

Yes, sorry, I guess I wasn't clear. It's an LN130 which is a 2nd gen surf/4runner. It just has a FJ45 body on it and a 1uz vvti as well.

So just for clarities sake, I can take an A02B coded diff from a 3rd Gen 4runner and put it into my 2nd gen axle housing?

And ja, I know I need both front and rear diffs to match.
