Got on the waitlist. I did not see this thread until tonight. My wife and I were planning a trip in June to try a couple of the easier trails and then I saw this. I had read about HIH on here but did not know when to expect it. So, being new to off-roading, I thought this might be the best way to learn. Bought my 2006 LC100 in October of last year and have been offroad only once here in KY. Not a lot of places here to go off-road like there is in Colorado. We took a trip mid-July last year to RMNP, Mount Evans and Dillon. I took my truck camper up to Caribou Silver Mine and that was what led me to buy the LC. I want to go more places like that! I have a 1997 F350 and a 1998 Lance truck camper and took it all the way up to the mine. It was the most fun I'd had with my truck and camper so far but it is just too big for what I really want to do. If I get a spot, I'll be towing the LC behind my truck and camper to the event. I really hope that they get that far down to me. If not, I know what to do next year!

Very few, if any, trails will be passable in June. We usually don't see the main trails open until after July 4th. Tons of snow this year.

The waitlist is very fluid and moves a lot each year. @bluecruiser is a genius with excel spreadsheets and numbers crunching. Don't fret if you're on the waitlist. We probably won't get all 30+ waitlisters in this year, but we will undoubtedly get many. As the next few weeks progress, Chris and I will talk almost everyday, usually multiple times per day. We text like 16 year old girls, so we are on top of everything and working hard to make sure we can get as many folks in as possible. With the main registration complete, the real work now begins!

For those of you looking to arrive early, we're working on an overnighter (maybe a double-overnighter) to the event. We will be starting from the Denver area and can probably take 10 vehicles with us. We will post something in the coming weeks about registering for that. You must be an HIH7 attendee. There will be no additional charge or anything. Pulling a trailer probably wont work as the areas we're looking at are not trailer friendly. We'll have a simple email list for this portion. Stay tuned.
If I manage to get off the wait list sign me up for this! While the San Juans are absolutely remarkable, the central part of Colorado is spectacular in its own right.

I'm not sure either but it'll be my first trip to Colorado and I think I'm going to head out early and bum around for a few days before it officially starts. Scott or odesyus or however he spells that is the other one that I know is going. Let's keep in touch.

I'll be rolling from either SLC or Park City again. Pretty easy drive out there.

Man. I will have my m416 w me...we can make it work!

^ Ha...was kinda kidding. I'm coming in from the south, going to Denver first would be way out of the way for me.

I will be dragging the 416 with me though, at about 9mpg for 2500 miles

This sounds very interesting! I was thinking about rolling in early as well. I've got a little over a week to impress my wife to move to Colorado!

I plan on heading out from Dallas on the 22nd to make a run out to the Grand Canyon. Time permitting would like to get one night at a National Park in Utah while making my way back to Silverton for HIH7. Hoping to get a few more mods done before hitting the road. :steer:

Canyonlands NP (Needles District) or Arches would be the easiest if you're short on time. Canyonlands would likely be the least crowded this time of year as well. Bryce and Zion are pretty but will certainly be an absolute zoo. If you can spare the time, Capitol Reef is neat and remote. Or, bypass the Utah NPs and hit Mesa Verde instead.

I can vouche for Mesa verde np. Very awesome and to tour the ruins you pay like $4 per person. We had an archeologist give the tour and you hike and climb on the historic site! We did a run last summer that went to Moab for a few days (canyon lands and arches) down to Mesa verde. Then looped up to telluride, ouray, Browns canyon and pikes peak. Hitting as many mountain passes as we could to get from on place to the next.

@marcfj60 Thanks for the heads up. I am going to check those out and plan a route that ends in Silverton on Wednesday.

@Ice cold Will be sure to keep Mesa Verde on the radar. I plan to travel via mountain pass as much as possible as well.

120 days out to HIH7

Good luck! Let me know if you have any questions. I'm not from the area but will try to help if I can.

I registered my wife and I and am so happy I got a slot. Is there anyway I can add 2 adults? My parents want to come and experience it, and I'm working on convincing my dad a 100 is in his future.

Canyon of the ancients is even better than Mesa Verdi imho,
We went to both 2 years ago and canyon of the ancients is all blm land so your free to explore the ruins on your own! There is a pretty cool museum on the way there as well where you can get a map. There are several ruins that are not documented as well so that was kind of fun finding your own. It was hot though!

Mesa Verde will definitely be on my list, wow! Seems to be the one park I missed out on growing up.

We will be coming from Tampa. I'm also planning stops in Biloxi/New Orleans and Austin for sure. We would love to meet up beforehand.

I'm off July 19 thru Aug 2, so I'm thinking of arriving the area early. Anyone have suggestions for fly fishing or mountain biking? Pretty much noobs at those skills here.

I had no idea Canyon of the Ancients existed, despite living in Farmington, NM for 2 years and passing through the Cortez area countless times. Looks like I've got a new place to visit. Ever been to Chaco Canyon? It seems kind of like this place.
