So I'm cleaning up the frame on my 78FJ40 before I replace the rear spring hangers (the tub is off). I'm going to POR-15 or something TBD. I was working around the side body mounts (the 2 that look the same on the sides where the front floor and seats would be). Anyway, they appear to have some sort of a something (spacers?) between the mount and the frame. It appears that the rivets are original so I don't think these were added (I thought maybe to fit them up to the Aqualu tub).

In any case I may be removing the mounts and fabbing up replacements because these "spacers" seem to have mostly rotted away leaving not much engagement between the mount and the frame... and there is some loss of material in the mounts due to the creeping rust too.

Does anyone have good clear pics of these mounts? I'd like to see how they are supposed to look...

And... are there replacement body mounts out there to buy - might be easier/cheaper than doing it myself....

Thanks,
Mark

Pictures? It sounds like you are describing the deterioration of your replaceable rubber body mounts and the small body brackets that provide the connection to your frame.

Rivets? Pics would be helpful. Poly mounts available. OEM mounts available. These are spendy (like $20+ per mount), but not bad if just a couple. I have a complete set of good used mounts but cant get at them until mid August for pics.

mine doesn't have anything between the bracket and frame. are you sure its not rust in between the two?

I am not sure.... but based on the amount of rust elsewhere on the frame it seems odd... I'll post pics later.

Those are the body mounts on the frame. There is flaky rust between the mount and frame rail. If it looks bad, then remove the mount, clean the rust off both pieces, paint w/ POR, then reinstall w/ nuts & bolts. The mount is NLA from Toyota. A new mount can be fabbed from angle iron and a couple of triangle gussets. Just went through this on a recent aqualu tub install
