Just finishing up a refresh of my rig. Last time was about 10 years ago.
All the cooling was removed, new water pump, hoses all replaced. New front heater core. All blowers removed cleaned, and motors opened up and cleaned. Electrical addressed with new turn signals front and rear. Turn signal switch and hazard switch taken apart and cleaned. New blinker switch added. Many small things painted as well.
Completely new front and rear brakes with new classic tube hard lines front to rear. New stainless flex lines also. All new hydraulics and lines too.
Replaced the missing blower resistor with city racer unit. Has been burned out for years. Now everything works as new. Added a blue tooth head unit. Very cool cheap addition. Hands free calling, radio and usb player.
Starting the basic tune up today. Still have to do the parking brake and speedi sleeve.
As a side note amazon purchase of rear signals have identical Toyota markings and appears to be good quality compared to ccot set i have. Also ccot sent out the ebrake kit and it was a terrain tamer brand. Which I can only think is a good thing.
I’ve been posting here for years and can’t thank the members enough for great information and community.

Those are some interesting rear springs for an FJ40. Usually see something that heavy on a 45/47 series trucks and troopies. Guessing pretty stiff on an FJ40.

2 ish inch ome springs. Ride is soft and smooth with good flex. This truck has an aluminum tub so a bit lighter than stock.

Going through the rear wiring harness. Any ideas on this green wire plug. Also found the same type along the frame near transmission

The one with the 2 wires? If that's near the right rear corner, it may feed up thru the top of the inner fender corner to supply power the the rt rear marker light and license plate light.

Are the spliced connections where a plug is supposed to be? Coolermsn sells stk plugs, terminal ends and color coded wire.

If that female bullet connector is between the rear combination lamps, it may be an unused connection on the Marker/Running Light circuit. I have that same connector on my '77 harness, and it was connected to nothing. Note, there are also three other connectors on different circuits in my rear OEM rear harness that are taped up and not used. However, all the rear harnesses I've done, I've installed that female bullet connector to match the OEM rear harness for whatever reason.

All lights work as factory. Looks like a female plug sliced in to same circuit. Yes several more on frame. This rig was unaltered when i got it. Should all be spec for September 1977 build date. Sold as 78. I have seen wiring on the transfer/transmission on mine but never had a 4wd indicator. Any pictures of location

Yes everything is stock. What does 4th gear have to do with it.
Thanks

It’s an emissions thing.

Took her out for a shake down run with the boss. Everything looks good so far. No leaks from the new brake lines and stops straight. I have a soft pedal first push then it firms up on the second pump. Everything from booster to brakes are brand new. Otherwise I’m satisfied with the refresh.

FYI, You still have air in the system if you have to pump the pedal.

Which one is the boss? I suspect that you might be number 3 on the totem pole. :)

Tighten up the rear brake adjustment.

Brakes bleed twice no air. I believe I need to adjust the rear brakes some more. Thanks for all the help.
I’ll follow up

Down and dirty platform. Not pretty but practical. All cooking and recovery gear easy to access under. Tailgate has spare parts and special tools. Plenty room for two people and a dog for the weekend. Minimal for sure.
Been the basic set up for several years. Last version of course.
Getting ready to tackle the ebrake tomorrow, normal leaks. Adjust the timing and we are good.
