'77 Wiper Problem

My wipers are working in reverse. With the switch pushed all the way in they are on high speed. Pulled out to the first detent they are on slow speed. Pulled out all the way they stop. The auto park is not working. I rebuilt the wiper motor about 6-7 years ago and put it on the shelf until my refreshtoration was further down the road. Any idea as to what is causing this issue?

I'm guessing you got the wires wrong. Could be at the motor, could be at the switch. VOM and wiring diagram will find the error quickly, color codes are very helpful. My park function quit working again. I fixed it back in like 85 - these days I just switch em off at the right time. I'd really like a delay function and blades that aren't $30 each, that will be a spring project.

I may have discovered the problem. The wiper switch I have has the terminals on the switch itself. (I think the correct switch has a pigtail with the terminals. I've attached pics of my switch and the harness plugs. If I do have the wrong switch where does the single female plug attach?

Wire color codes on the diagram is how you figure it out. You have 2 rows of 3 terminals and a single on the plug Your switch has a row of 2 and a row of 3 plus a sideways one. Guessing the single on the plug goes to the sideways one on the switch, not sure which way the 2x3 row plug fits on the switch. I would suspect the plug has no wire in the connection that fits the switch with the missing terminal.

So looking on various websites, classic cruiser, cruiser corps, cott, city racer. It appears the switch you have goes from 72 to 8/77. The one with a pigtail starts 9/77.
The pic below is from a 74/75 fsm. You can get on Coolermans website and find your wiring diagram. You can rewire the plug to work with your switch. It's easy to pull the wire terminal ends from the plug using a pin or small probe.

Follow-up:
First, thanks for all the feedback. My rig is Apr '77 so I have the correct switch. (which I had to repair...see below).
I was previously testing the wiper motor while it laid in the floor board. When I grounded the motor everything worked correctly! It's funny how no ground caused it to work as described in my OP.

As mentioned, I had to repair the switch. In case someone has the same issue.....The square shaft had pulled out of the black (bakelite?) slider, busting-out the two-stage slot that allowed shaft to be installed, and, retained the shaft once installed. The switch was disassembled carefully with pics taken at every step.
I fashioned a small, rectangle piece of sheet metal (0.03" thk) with the same dimensions as the front of the slider (including correct slot profile). This piece was JB bonded to the slider. Switch internals were cleaned and dielectric grease applied to slider, detent ball & spring, ground bar & springs. Assembled & tested. It my not hold but it is working well for now.

That switch is available new OEM for under $50 just a FYI. I just put one in a 76 last week. Part # 84650-60050

Well I do have the exact part, but it is not "keyed". I use an exacto knife to cut out the key. Takes about 2 minutes to do and works perfectly.
