Sanded and primed inner fender aprons..Black satin final squirt. Hood and fenders are at the paint booth for a re-shoot. Fenders and hood will be "Hot rod black". Think a semi/non gloss black...

Sarge,

Yep, I think that's what I am going to do. That area is primarily flat, so you are spot on, a patch of flat stock will see me through until I can put it in "dry dock" this winter for a proper refit..I have seen worse repaired with less.....Trying to be cognizant of my tendency toward mission creep. You know what I mean, red eyed over caffeinated late nights, chasing "Alice" down some of these "rebuild threads"....Next thing you know your standing in the garage revving the impact wrench..........;)

Slick cruiser... And some nice practical facelift works.

I think she'd look great in that Calvary blue... As long as the top was white along with the bezel. Keeps with the blue heritage of the rig, stays in the Toyota color family, and gives your rig a bit of your own touch.

Thanks!!! I am vacillating between which crayon in the box I like best!! I was poking around on some of the threads last night and some of the early greens are "out of the park". What it really boils down to is this "I'll take a 40 in this color a 60 in that color, three 45's all in red, two 55's in two-tone etc etc etc". I think I need rehab...!

Man, you are doing some serious work on your 76. I See you live in WV and I was up there the first week in
February for a Snowboard trip with family and friends. Well keep up the good work and i'll follow along as there are a few things I need to do to my rig and you just might cover a few of them.

I appreciate your thumbs up.....:D

But, as you know, there is a mutant clan of "Land Cruiser savants" lurking on these threads...:poof:I've seen things on here that defy the laws of "Euclidean space". My old mule may polish up, but I don't reckon it will ever run the "Derby".... Keep the pics coming!!

I once lived across the Ohio river from Parkersburg. Funny, you don't talk like them people in Parkersburg...

For one very long year. The day after I graduated from Belpre High I packed my two suitcases and headed north. Never went back.

Good place to be "From"..Lived in and out of that area for the better part of a life time. Still have some kin there..Toyota dealer over on 7th st has a pristine Dune Beige Fj40 sitting on the show room floor. As I recollect, based on the window sticker asking price, they were very proud of it.

I think something's up with these dealers. The parts guy at the local Toyota says the owner is having one restored to put in his showroom, and the dealer in El Paso had one 'sort of' restored to put in his showroom before he changed his mind and sold it on Ebay recently.:hmm:

The rest of the tub looks to be relatively sea worthy except for the tops of the wheel wells (as described above). Next weekend I'll soak with a good cleaner and power wash out the remainder of the tub. I'll take a look underneath next weekend as well. Preliminary indications (1st look) are good. Although I did notice that it looks it is still has the original body mounts..

Had a question REF: "Blue heater hose". I used VenAir 5/8" Silicone Hose/Heater Hose.
According to the manufacturer it is a Extruded VMQ type silicone tubing with a polyester braiding. The advertised operational temperature range is from -60ºC to 180ºC (over-kill and then some), It meets the requirements of SAE J20R3 Class A standard for cooling systems in the automotive industry. It doesn´t spoil with age and his highly resistant to ozone and is not affected by anti-freeze. AND I bought it for a screaming deal. Not sure if it comes in Black. I'll post up some pics this week end of the plumbing buttoned up. Just waiting on some stainless T-bolt clamps...

Found a black bolt on tail gate...Bolted on for a test fit. IMO will need a gasket to finish off the tail end. Test mounted the tire carrier. PO had powder coated the spare tire carrier . You can see the spacers I made to handle the larger spare tire. Used grade 8 and dual large washers to handle the additional stress. Added a close up shot of one of the new rear bumper(s). I'll touch up the hinge later.

Some of the stainless hardware came in last week. Added with the silicon hose...Should hold up well. Cleaned the heater valve up.Still functions well despite the well worn look.

Test fit a "Tough Dog" Damper. Still need to adjust, IE back it off about a 1/4"..I posted this up on the forum earlier. Mixed reviews. But the response from Australia was + positive...So I figure if its good enough for the "Outback" I'll give it a try....Mounts in the stock location. The old damper can still be seen mounted on the tie-rod. I never liked that setup. As soon as I have rig up and running (soon, the good lord willing and the creek don't rise) I'll put it through its paces :steer:and post a review.

Removed gas tank cover and gas tank...Good shot of the 76 Sky blue paint under the tank cover..Comes across on the "digital translation darker and bluer" than with the naked eye...
