Should my 10/72 FJ40 have the fuel tank cover or the two hold down straps? I see pictures of both in '73 trucks. The EPC calls out the straps for 9/71 to 9/73. My truck came to me with a cover but there are no threaded holes for securing the back side and there are no brackets for the straps (maybe removed by PO?).

The fuel tank protector 77801-90300 didn't start until 9/73 according to the EPC.

As usual my 10/72 is proving to be difficult - using odd parts like the one year only gauge cluster and reverse light.

Fuel Tank 77100-60041 (9/72 - 2/73)

Does anyone have a picture of one of these? Someone with an early '73 truck?

Looks like it could be like the one that was used thru 78 if the sketch is correct, with a different fitting on the side, as discussed on the CCOT site.
They talk about using their 72-78 tank in the 9/72 to 2/73 trucks by adding a piece of tubing at the tank connection.

Vapor Separator 77193-60010 (9/72 - 2/73)
Separator Protector 77194-60020 (9/72 - 2/73)

It appears the later style separator can be made to work with this cover by doing a little trimming.

Jan 1973 FJ40-141868.

Original arrangement, including "minimal" cover over separator.

Band 77601-90903 (9/71 - 9/73) is what I have.
Bands are bolted to the floor in the front (M6x1.0x50mm for mine) and "hook" into clips in the back.

The fuel line coming off the mid-side of the tank above below is the supply line to the fuel pump.
Later model tanks have supply and return lines. For these newer tanks, the supply line comes off the bottom side of the tank, to the right of the sending unit wire grommet. It's welded to the bottom of the tank.

The mid-side port (supply on the earler '73 tank) becomes the return line on the later model tanks.
