Searched but came up with little. Anyone have advice on adjusting the parking brake? Thanks

Parking brake is between the transfer-case and rear driveshaft. On this drum you can see an adjusting knob on the side facing the transfer. Twist it clockwise to expand the shoes. It works exactly like a drum brake. You can actually see (just barely) the adjusting plates teeth through the small hole that the adjusting knob comes out through. Super easy. Did this to mine last night (took maybe 2 minutes).

I suggest before adjusting it is, if have not already done so or you have no idea what the status of the brake shoe are in..is take it apart to make sure your pads and hardware are in good shape. The hardest part is taking the drive shaft off after that it is a 1-2 banana job.

Thanks for the advice, I know where it is, just have not made the effort to adjust it. Blew the master a few months ago and realized how important having a back up brake is. Just replaced the master and back driving it daily, but planning to work on parking brake asap. I think i will crawl under there this weekend and have a go!

Nice! I'm going to crawl under mine and have a look!

Actually seeing were on this topic! I tried tightening the adjustment screw and I've turned it in all the way and on the other end under the dash I've set the cable all the way and still the pads aren't touching... Is it possible for the cable inside the drum to fall off? Or is this simply because i need new pads... Because I've done everything and you would think that even if the pads were worn right down that they would alteast touch I've tightened everything...
Any help would be appreciated!

LMGTFY:

Pic is sideways; right side is the bottom. It turns CCW to tighten. It's easy to tell, because it will probably turn only one click tighter, but quite a few looser. Give it one click, then pull the lever and release.

With the t-case in N and the drive shaft disconnected, you can turn it by hand to see that it's not too tight to spin.

I totally agree that if you have never had it apart, but you think it needs to be 'adjusted', you owe it to yourself to pull it all apart, and see what you have inside. It's a common place to find gear oil and fouled pads. SOR has very nice used pads, as I recall.

Thanks for the tips. 1 click CCW worked for me last night. first fix for the new truck in the bag. Before this I was backed into a curb on the street haha. moving onto a few other odds and ends before the initial inspection. then I'll probably re-visit and open it/clean it some point soon.
