Weekends in San Diego.. Work days Nashville..

just when things were going smooth lol
put the shock in place and man nothing is right

shock is to close to the lower panhard mount, and touches.
the upper shock mount is now to low (was measured with a non coilover and the new shock is a few inches longer even though its still a 14" travel shock

i need to finish the front axle so i can put tires on it and see where the upper limit is then redo the shock mounts and probably the whole front tube work

FFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU
i just dont know what to do anymore

so looking at this pic that is max up travel. the upper link hits the motor mount and the panhard bar hits the frame (already notched) and almost the crank pulley.

and this is almost where ride height would be. maybe an inch down. so one inch up uptravel and i don't think that's enough. kinda seems stupid to have 6" of fender there and not even be able to get the tire to come close during stuff.

anybody have any ideas?

oh well this was just painful.

cut the front off and started over. the shock hoops were 4-5 inches to short to work with the new coilovers and the way they were built it was going to be a bitch to make fit. so off with the frame to redo it all again lol.

got the shock hoop and radiator hoop cut off.

got new frame rails installed, 2x3 tubing. what a PITA to get it all perfect square and level. the new frame is around 4" higher then the old front part. i will have to get creative to get the max amount of uptravel.
photo%25202.JPG

and some simple frame plates to gusset the new section.
photo%25203.JPG

started working on the radiator hoop. originally i threaded the tube to hold the rad, but figured i would do something a little stronger and welded weld nuts to some plate and welded that onto the tubing. seemed much stronger. :D
photo%25201.JPG

also picked up a bunch of these weld nuts in metric. these things rock, extra large and have spacers on the other side to help with giving it a nice weld.
photo%25203.JPG

next up was modding the cross member that will hold the radiator hoop. it was just a bit to tall so i decided to cut a bit out to help with air flow to the rad. also welded in some nuts to hold the power steering cooler.
photo%25202.JPG

all welded up.
photo%25204.JPG

all ground down :D
photo%25205.JPG

and in place.

and i am done. front end just isnt working right and kinda annoyed at the whole thing. sooo........

this is now in my driveway.
new plan is to use this stock frame and body and just do a spring over and shackle reversal. just putting my axles under it and engine.
even came with a trailer lol

 did you look at that ad too?
is your truck running now?

well got the old engine out. god damn that thing is a long bitch
photo%252525201-015.JPG

and the new next to the old. i must say, rolling these things around by myself kinda sucked. the driveway isnt that steep but still steep enough to make it a pain.
(i still need to remove the 2" body lift on the new one. also doing a shackle reversal too.
photo%252525202-015.JPG

also got all the brackets off (fugly V8 mounts, stock shock mounts, stock steering box mount, and front bumper mounts. These rivets suck to remove lol.

You make it sound so easy.... I have a 71, too. Let me know when I can bring it over for some of your welding/fabrication magic. How long did it take you to do all this work? Amazing stuff!

not sure. maybe make it into a cruzer trailer. as the new one didnt come with vins or title so i will be reusing mine. links and coilivers and whatever i will just sell.

got a little done today. saturday my mig welder started acting up, (think the gas valve is acting up)
so had to use the tig. started working on the steering setup. basic saginaw conversion.
photo%252525201-016.JPG

got the front brace mostly welded on till the tig ran out of gas lol. wtf.
also closed up that hole. not sure what it was for, but i dont think i needed it :D
photo%252525202-016.JPG

got my mini truck axle in. and new front hangers installed. they are a bit wider then the stock hanger by about an inch or so.
photo%252525201-018.JPG

photo%252525202-018.JPG

I also didnt finish the rear shackle points till i have it almost done with all the bumpers. its currently sitting on 2" blocks off the frame. I will drill thru the frame and install the sleeves and bushings so i can get the shackle angle exactly where i want it.
photo%252525203-010.JPG

also got the steering plate tack welded in place.
photo%252525204-005.JPG

got the adapter/spacer for the brake booster for the mini truck MC.

got the firewall plate made up.
photo%252525201-019.JPG

started to copy the ones i have seen but only had so large of tubing and thought i could get it to work.
photo%25202.JPG

however the bolts were just to close to the tube. so i seemed to have more time then material so made some little bumps and welded it up
photo%252525203-011.JPG

little updates.
got the front steering all finished up.
photo.JPG

also because my last axle was all welded up with link brackets i so didnt want to cut all that s*** off. so i am using a toyota full floater from a dually.

got all the brackets off the full floater. also picked up some calipers and some rotors and some fj80 full floater hubs to get the correct bolt pattern.

photo%25201.JPG

test fitting before cutting the brackets off.
