Hey y'all. As Land Cruisers do, they tend to multiply. I've had and been working on a 99 LX470 for several years, and through that, got to know my local Land Cruiser group. And, of course, eventually one of those guys had a project truck that came up for sale at a price I could stand at a time when I had a few bucks around, so... another truck came home.
This is my 1969 FJ40. It "ran" as acquired, but needed a carb rebuild (done!) and some new plugs. Still working on fine tuning the carb (Older Holley 2bbl) a bit, and after this will be a brake rebuild on some of the wheel cylinders, and then going through the electrical stuff to get it all going like it should be. Once it goes/ drives/ stops properly and has legal lighting, I'll get into the rest, which will likely entail a fair bit of rust repair, modification for offroad use, and general messing about. Not sure of the order there. Goal's not a super-correct restoration or anything, just making an old truck fun and enjoying it for a while. My general project car approach, really, though this one presents an opportunity to learn a little welding and more paint and body stuff than anything I've had before.
Not much to report beyond that for now, but I wanted to make a home for "hey did this this week," so that'll be this thread.
Pros: In a basic sense it's all there, and while it's got some rust and dings and dents, someone at least skimcoated some bondo and primed where it needed at some point in the past. I kinda like the patina look. No rush on repainting.
Cons: Eh... bondo. It's taken a tough shot on the driver side door bottom at some point and that door needs surgery, probably along with that sill. The hard top is ...there, but it's rrrrough. I predict that it'll come off for a full rehab and this thing will live with a rollbar/ bikini top setup for quite some time.
First things first, lol:
