Cool, congratulations. It is always an exiting moment.
I know the feeling. It's like pakjesavond during

Be sure to post lots of pictures when you can. I use dropbox and simply link my pictures to the forum.

Yeah, just like pakjesavond:) (kids are already making wish lists and sinterklaas isn't even in the country yet)

Thanks for the tip for dropbox. Will try that. But I should also have enough posts now for posting pictures.

Any of the early FJ folks here have a bead on early running boards? I am looking for a set for my '65.

Thanks for the tip. I have to find out if parts are available from the dealer, but i read somewhere they don't have parts catalogs before 1969? So I might need some help with part numbers. If I have questions I'll ask them here. If I can't trace the parts here in Europe I will make a wish list and find someone who can collect it and send it to me. Shipping costs will be high I'm affraid. When I will be that far I'll may contact you. Thanks for offering your help.

Also very much info on mud. I have read hours and hours already and learning everyday.
Yesterday we disassembled the rear brakes: they were stuck, caused by dirt in the wheel brake cilinders. We cleaned and honed them, but they almost look new. Cups look fine but to be certain we ordered new ones. I think these are the original cilinders, but the cups say made in USA. The back plate of the rear brakes look fine: a bit dirty and surface rust but no further issues.

That is correct. Dealers only have listing for parts back to 3/69. Many parts still available but dealers have no way to look them up. A few people including myself have old micro-fiche or part books to look part numbers up.

The rubber seals (dustcaps) on the wheelbrake cilinders are worn/dried out. Can someone help me with a partnumber for a repair kit for these wheelbrakecilinders. Are rear and front the same or different? My VIN is 2-FJ4014390.

thanks.

Can somebody tell me if these wheel cilinders are the same as used on later models? SOR says 1963 - 7/1970, but mine is 1962.

Help would be appreciated.

I will update with parts numbers and will check with a dealer to see what is available. Front crossed over from old part number to new. The backs weren't as clear. I note on the micro-fiche was the only thing I could find without searching thru pages of old part numbers that are in no order.

1962

complete front kit RK95 476-21
front cup kit (rubber parts) RK95 476-12

complete rear kit FJ40 475-11
rear cup kit FJ40 476-21

1963

front complete kit 04473-36010
front cup kit 04475-36010

rear complete kit 04473-60010
rear cup kit 04475-60010

Front numbers converted from 62 to 63
The rear numbers I didn't find a conversion but it looks like just before making the 62 micro-fiche they added a handwritten note for the rear full kit to the 63 rear full kit part number.

Asking a local dealer the 04473-60010 was the only one still available. Front kit didn't even come up as anything.

Some history

I can relate what the owner previous to me told me about this truck. Suposedly he was the third owner, bought it from an older fellow who used it on his own property to drive to the mailbox and plow his lane out to the main road. Yes it did have a very old PA plate and a very old PA inspection sticker when I got it. It had a dealer sticker on the back of the roof (centered) from Krause Toyota in Schnecksville, PA. I believe this truck was sold new there and in PA all its life. Not being used on salted roads for most of its life apparently saved it from the worst of the rust demons. The rear sill is rusted badly for some reason while the rest of the truck is unbelievably solid.

I'd love to have kept it but didn't care for the seating and steering wheel position/relationship and the lack of power steering; I didn't want to modify the truck, either- it is too original to have done that. I believe the truck is in very good hands with Paul and his father and hope it gets the restoration it deserves.

By the way the shipper Paul contracted with apparently did a good job, and I was surprised at what seemed to be a very reasonable price for the transportation. I must say that I was a little nonplussed when the driver showed up somewhat unannounced at my house- and could hardly speak English! He was very good, though, and the truck got from my house to the port in northern New Jersey (NY, really) in the same condition as it was when it left my house.

Looking forward to progress reports and pictures along with everyone else! Gary S

FYI: I received the following prices from our local Toyota dealer:

front complete kit 04473-36010 €15.01
front cup kit 04475-36010 NA

rear complete kit 04473-60010 €51.60
rear cup kit 04475-60010 NA

Living in the past: thanks for your help with the part numbers.

Paul.

The rear sill rust is even a problem here in AZ. The C channel on the back collects dirt and hold moisture. The corners are the worst with it's double layer. Sad because just using a garden hose regularly would have avoided it. My 68 that I bought in 74 has no rust but I was always anal about rinsing the underside. It's always been a mytery to me why was was so ananl about. You can ask my wife and she will tell you I'm far from being a clean freak.:meh:

Hi, here a little update from Holland. We didn't realize it would be so hard to get parts for this old truck. But we will see it as a challenge!. We ordered a lot of parts at Toyota, but most of it turned out to be NLA. So we are looking for other sources.

We have cup kits for the front wheel brake cylinders, a set for a complete axle. The anchor plates all around are in very good shape, only surface rust. Cleaned, grinded and sprayed black. We didn't find anything yet to fix the rear cylinders. We are working on that. Would anybody know if a cup kit or complete cylinders are available at your side of the ocean for a reasonable price? Maybe we can have them shipped to The netherlands.

The right front wheel bearings were very bad, easy fix. Left was as new.

We have new shackles and bushings, they were not completely gone yet but the dried rubbers might be an issue. We replaced shock rubbers, they were completely gone.

Next is replacing all brake lines and hoses.

Brake hoses are also NLA from Toyota. Our local brake shop will have new ones made. They will need to reuse the original 11mm male fittings and have new 9mm females, and they have some M9x1 tubenuts (not enough but we think we can reuse most old ones). We thought we sourced some 9 mm nuts at a citroen 2cv shop, but they turned out to be M9x1.25.

Oh, and we mounted new H4 headlights as sealed beams are not allowed here. And we are trying to fix the drivers side window mechanism.

Will make pictures again when we are getting it alltogether.

We have done some work on the brakes: cleaned and resprayed back plates, resealed and sprayed wheel brake cylinders, mounted new brake hoses. We found cup kits for the rear cylinders at E-bay. (new old stock, more are available).

We will replace all the tube nuts for the brakelines, old ones arent as good as we hoped. A local company will make new ones for us, we can finish the brake project when we have them (probably next week).

Looking good!

Nice work, finding parts is even a problem on fairly new tundras. Mike

Question: the filler plug on the (centered) rear diff is damaged. Is this M25x1,5? Is this used in later cars as well? If yes: where? or do you know a partnr?
