Ha ha! That's hilarious. My fiancé is learning - she doesn't know it yet, but she's going to have mud on her boots and grease under her nails soon. Well, probably not, but it's a goal.

Haven't gotten my wife to turn a wrench with me yet but I doubt it will be long. She is the designated brake bleeder though.

Petoors......On that white 90 FJ62 you got there-------Very nice rig!! Do not lose any of that paperwork including the original sticker. Keep it in a safe, water tight container and out of the sunlight. Also, please tell me what the 3 tubes on the front bumper are for. Flagpoles, bottle rocket launching, are they air-horns or James Bond mortar tubes?? Congrats on a killer find!

Thanks. The original papers, owner's manual etc is actually stored in the house.
Wish it was "James Bond mortar tubes", but it is fishing rod holders. Not suitable for the open road but once you're on the beach and moving from one fishing spot to the next you just stick the rods, with reel and bait attached in there and relocate. Quicker than fixing it on the roof or having stinky bait in the car.

Heyo all I just was GIVEN a 87 TLC name "Smokey"
Truck sat for about 5 years left for dead. Unfortunately in a oceanfront environment.

After putting a bunch of dough into the mechanical restore, she purrs like a kitten.
Interior is great and complete and over all she is in very good condition with the exception of some nasty roof rot

New, (to me), 1987 FJ60

After lurking around the forum for the past few months, and scouring the ads on line, I found a FJ60 stuffed into a garage that I took home last night. Sprayed degreaser all over stuff underneath, and will start working on it today.

Previous owner told me it "threw a rod" which surprised me. I have not heard of that with this engine, but who knows. I will drop the pan as soon as I get all the grease off. He has taken the a/c compressor and alternator off to troubleshoot, (?) and told me it hasn't moved from his garage in ~4 years. Inside looks great, outside has some rust, but nothing on the roof drip edge. One fist sized hole in the driver's front fender, so I will be waiting for a clean one of those to pop up.

My plans are to put in a SBC instead of finding a new short block, (if that is what the problem is), new suspension, rebuild both axles, upgrade to 4 runner brakes, and add larger rims and tires. Ditch the stock bumpers, and clean up the rust and paint it with a decent paint job. I am guessing I will be into it $10 grand before it's all over with.

i am happy to have another Project, and I am very happy to find all the information on the boards here. Pics attached.
