60 front springs are 42inches long with the axle pin centred.

60 rears are 47.5inchs with the axle pin at 22 inches from the hanger and an extra 5inches to the shackle.

So if someone were to run 60 rear leafs on all 4 corners. The front axle would move forward by 1inch and the front shackle would be forward by about 5inches. One could flip the front shackle hanger to get a good shackle angle by the looks of things.

In theory it looks like it would work easily with very little modification and would make things much more flexible and soft. My question is has anyone done this and how was drivability?

I did. Maybe even a few times 😉

Pretty common with the SOA crowd. My green truck has them up front now.

No driveability issues, ride is a bit nicer with longer springs.

Sounds like a win win!

Any reason your not running that on your 60 now?

Did the stock shock and sway bar frame mounts still work with the one inch deflection?

Have any old pictures of it handy?

Sway bar? Who bothers with those anymore?

This was on 40 series I did it (and whatever the hell the green thing is)

I don't need to make work on my 60, it generates enough on its own...:bang:

Hah! with all that flexy spring length and no sway bar I imagine it will drive like a half sunk torpedoed frigate on the road in the corners and swerving to avoid some stupid driver.

*More so than now.

The front and rear sway bars will help to keep its road manners with soft suspension but having a quick disconnect system on the links would be a good idea so it doesn’t fight you off road. :hmm:

Me and Jason built a bj42 years ago at Radd, full aluminum tub from Aqualu and we put 60 rear springs on all four corners. Worked very well even on a sprung under, older dude in Chemainus used it mainly for hunting.

ha, that was my old frame. I sold it to Nimo after I built my 42 into a 45.

About as clean a 42 frame as you'll ever see. ( aside from my booger welds  )

He lived maybe a block away at the time.

This is the frame in question, has 60 rears at all corners in this pic. Not that it means much for doing this to a 60.

Also, on sway bars, I've removed every one I've ever had on a truck within a week of purchase. Never missed one of them for a second. :meh:

Thanks that’s great! I also am looking at doing something with my 40 suspension.

Is that by any chance 60 front springs on the rear of that 40? They just look a little centred, should be several inches longer out the rear unless the axle pin was redrilled?

I hear the 60 front springs work on 40’s with almost no modifications. Put on the rear of the 40 they increase the wheelbase about 1.5 inches.

Nnnnope. Rears all around.

I may have ****ed with redrilling perches out back, (probably) don't remember for sure.

I know I moved the fixed hanger aft a couple inches up front.

I really do like 60 series rear springs all the way around on 40's and 60's they allow you to adjust the wheelbase by flipping them end for end and re-drilling the military wrap to accommodate. I run them on one of my 60's in the front and my rock crawler as well. they flex way better than 40 series and last a lot longer over time and abuse than any other springs I have tried. I would recommend using toyota rubber bushings as they will also outlast any of the crappy polyurethane bushings they sell by a factor of about 4 times.

Hey fellas, lets keep it about the tech. If you have a beef about the past, take it to the PM's, email, phone.
