Change the tranny mount save time save money have a better truck.

Its not just the tranny mount. I am hoping Cruiser parts will try and solve the problem. It would be the most professional thing to do. Looks like they will be getting another call. I also bought a 4wd emblem for my brother and forgot the clips. They sent the clips so we could mount it but they didn't work. When we called them for the frame we also asked about this and they said something about having to use tape instead of the clips. So why did they send the clips if they knew they wouldnt work??

I will keep you posted.

If James is the owner then I think we did. To be honest my brother was the one that did the talking. He is a little more forceful then I am, so we both thought he should talk. But I am pretty sure he talked to him.

You should PM "Lowtideride" he is doing an fj-62 type frame swap. He will know exactly what the actual differences are between the two frames are. IIRC it is not that much different, and I think Lowtide stated that the 62 frame was actually stronger than the 60 frame!

Thanks Zack, I just checked out his thread and sent him a message.

PM'ed ya back...

You should be stoked they sent you an fj62 frame they are a much better frame than the fj60. (Much improved spring mounts, stronger crossmembers, etc etce..check my thread for the rest of the list )

The engine mount problem is a cake a cake walk. Nothing more than reaming out(elongating the holes). The 3fe is offset differently.

As for the tranny mount, youll either have to drill and tap the frame. Not a big deal when there is no body on it. The fuel and brake lines are even bent over the spot where it is suppose to go. Or weld it, Which I chose to do because I was sunning out of steam by day 4 and it was easier to do than tap it. I did this frame swap in 5 days by myself.

Those are the two biggies, there is a bunch of other little things but I included them in my PM, if ya get hung up let me know Im sure Ill remember.

....Shocks mounts are also beefed up with bigger mounts, so youll need new rear shocks or to ream out the bushings you got.

Thanks lowtide. I guess I am happy I got a 62 frame. I still dont like cruiserparts and probably will never buy from them again.

ill bite my lip on this one, but I know they destroy more cruisers than they save.

So am I going to have to get a new steering box?

I think It depends what month your 84 is. I think the box changed late 84 or early 85.

The other option is to just drill two more holes to match the one you have now.

I vote to get a new box and keep the booty fab to a minimum.

I know there are a few medders looking for early FJ60 boxes right now, plus maybe you could buy a used Late FJ60 box and have it rebuilt at that place in texas everyone likes (?West Texas Offroad?). Then you have a double win when it goes back together.

I've got a used FJ-62 box that I can part with, if you go that route PM me.

Its 9-84 how would I find out if it is the right box?

drilling holes in the frame is far from booty fab:rolleyes:

I am about ready to mount a 4 speed up as soon as it gets here but when I checked my 62 frame today it looked like toward the front where the 60 cross member should go on the frame....well it appears to be 4 factory holes already there. is it possible some 62 already came pre-drilled?

I cannot remember....the 4 speed cross member is suppose to bolt right up the frame right?...cause I know 62 is not(it has the mounts welded to the outside of the frame )...or whatever.

There is a good chance the holes are already there. If you look closely the brake and fuel lines are already bent out of the way for a manual cross member right from the factory...

I am not sure I would tap that metal on the inside of the frame, as there isnt much to it. If the holes dont end up working I would drill and sleeve them. Or weld the arms to the cross member on. Which just means you have to put the tranny mount in after the tranny is already in.

Good luck buddy...
