According to the news report I read, it was a couple from Florida in a Jeep. The Sheriff said they started down the the steps, decided to turn around and go back up. The injuries were reported as minor. The bad news is, the Sheriff is going to push to close Black Bear to vehicular travel.
HUGE THANKS to the directors for putting on another fun and successful HIH, my 3rd, already looking to the next one!
AMAZING sponsor support; Some of the raffle highlights were the 3 Bumpers and a roof rack with light bar given away! Unreal for an event this size, thanks to all the sponsors big and small!
And of course a big thanks to @woody and 'mud for bringing us all togather in the first place.

Another great HIH! Thank you Stan, Chris and Jonathan. In addition to Stan, who was the first on the accident scene noted above, Dan and Tim also played key roles in helping the first responders/EMS guys to expedite the recovery. Kudos to you guys! Our HAM radios played a key role in the communications for the fastest recovery possible. As a result and observation of how effective these radios worked, from the two HIH groups that were just ahead and just behind this accident, I know there will be several new HAM licenses being pursued before next year's trip! Additionally, as far as anyone knows....we think Stan may have been the first person to do Black Bear Pass, BACKWARDS, in a 100 Series! Excellent driving my friend!
Sorry I missed this year. With the Fj Summit just a few weeks before, it is hard to commit to another mega mountain weekend so soon.
Stan is a great resource up there, I recruited Stan a few years back to help at the Fj Summit after my role changed and I could no longer devote the time to spot on BB for several days. I miss doing that, lucky for me I got a chance to sub in this year for one day. I found BB to be in great shape this year.
Glad you all had a successful HIH event this year!
A big thanks to those who put this together, the sponsors and let's not forget the trail leaders. It was a pleasure to meet everyone I had a chance to meet. I had a blast and I'm looking forward to next year!
This event exceeded my expectations by a large margin. Even the rain didn't put a damper on things no pun intended. Thanks to the leaders Stan, Chris and Jonharris for putting this awesome event on.
A big thanks to Stan for some awesome trail runs! It was great to hear all the history of the trails and mines, even though he's probably ran these trails a 100 times he never rushed us, thanks again Stan!!!
Well...... here's the real story on the Black Bear rollover. I can't begin to tell you how fast this is blowing up. Stay tuned for more on what we, as an offroad community and family, can do to ensure these trails stay open and free to the public. I have about 100 emails and messages already.
I will start a Trip Report thread soon. I'll also go through the few photos that I have of the event. Special thanks goes to @nakman, @BJTLC100, and @DanInDenver who helped with the Black Bear Rollover. Having HAM radio made all the difference in the world.
Hope everyone headed home is experiencing a good drive or made it home safely. My kids and I arrived to a beautiful 105 degrees at 8pm and found a broken AC at our home. Oh well, HIH 5 was the best yet thanks to all of you for participating and trusting us to guide you on your visit to the San Juan's. Also, the sponsors were huge, again. I'll have more to say later and we will begin coordinating some photo drop spots. Thanks guys. Awesome to meet you all. ~chris
