ANYONE KNOW OFF HAND WHAT LENGTH STOCK 55 SRINGS ARE EYE TO EYE, FRONTS AND REARS. i WANT TO ORDER SOME ALCANS BUT I WON'T HAVE THE 55 BACK UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH. THANKS

I run SOA on Spiderlegs. She runs Fj 55 fronts all the way around on my fj40. 42 3/4 inch for 55 front springs with 5 leaves (fairly flat) 42 inches with 7 leaves (more arch) for the rear of the vehicle. I don't know about fj55 rears because this is the setup I currently run on my 74 fj40. Flex is great with 94 inch wheelbase. I am trying to upload 1 pic at a time but it says my file is too big 332 vs 87KB? . I don't know how to get around this. Moderator help??? otherwise PM with email and I'll send you pictures of this setup. This is the best SOA setup I have seen, hence the name spiderlegs. I didn't build it but it is awesome, thanks to Dale Knorr in Sacramento :D He hates getting recognition. :D

NCO - resize your pics

open pic in photo editor - go under image in toolbar and click resize - set width to about 500 - then go under file in toolbar and click properties - set resoulution to about 30 - save pic then upload resized file

worked for me

This Truck Is/will Be Sua As It Is A Daily Driver, But Will Get Wheeled Too ! I Am Going To A 4" Lift W/flipped U-bolts. Thanks

The fronts are exactly the same as the 40 front except that the center pin is directly in the middle. The rears are 3.5"s longer than the rear 40 springs, which I think is 43.5" for the FJ55 rears. Same deal with the center pin, they are directly in the middle.

tHANKS TO ALL. MIKE

I'm pretty sure Alcan will be able to tell you as many on this board have been praising both their springs and their prices. I'd try calling them and ask if they have measurements for 55 springs... odds are you'll get a lot of help.

So I could buy a generic FJ40 lift kit and it would fit my piggy? Hmmmmm.

Not too sure about that unless you can deal with your front axle get moved a little. So you would have a choice, forward or back, depending on flipping or not. WOuldn't want to move it back and kill departure angle. Fenders would really need some chopping if moved forward with a standard shackle set up.

Are you sure about that? I thought Pigsprings were wider than 40 springs...
'40 shackles don't fit my springs.

I forgot to mention the bushing size. 40 bushings are 9/16" and 55 bushings are 5/8". I run the FJ55 rears on my 40 and I had to get some special bushings that would fit the FJ55 eye hole but still have the 9/16" diameter hole for the solid leaf mount.

No because the front 40 springs are offset with the center pin so your axle would be placed differently. And the rear 40 springs are 3.5"s shorter than that FJ55 rears.

I'm now 1/4 elliptical in the rear, but my wife seemed to think the rear FJ55 packs on the front of my FJ40 flexed just fine this past weekend in TX....

i vote we restrict woody to pics of either the rig or the wife... both together just make a man angry

That's what I was thinking too. They've gotta have all the cruiser specs nailed by now. Heck, I'd bet they had them all worked out just getting thru Justin's horde! :flipoff2:

I've talked to Alcan regarding 55 springs. They have a card for them. Apparently the card has all the info they need to run off a set of springs for a 55. I think they had 2 and 4" cards for 55 springs.

I was just looking into them myself. They've gots all the details. I also did some asking around for what, if anything, would you have done differently with your 55 Alcans, and Pessalot (whos running 36" tires) had this to say about them (Pees, I hope I'm not stepping on yer feet):

1.75" back was moving center pin back from stock . IIRC it was like 19 .75 " and I ordered the Alcans at 21.75 " they came in at 21.5 " . No cutting using standard rear flares. Overall length adjust was done for better shackle angle ( old springs had almost no angle to shackles ) and it gives better droop. I would have gone another 1.5" back with center pin and still had little trimming ( very little ) but then my third woulda hit my aux. tank under full stuff.
I would get Alcans at 1" lift ( for sag and weight) and set length by taking a cord measurement of old springs and then adding enough to set shackles at good angle. Then set center pins where you get the most WB without cutting tin or doing major driveline adjustments. IIRC my rears were ordered at 45" total cord length of main leaf. Hold a tape up to your rig with the end in the center of front spring hanger of rear springs. Then measure straight back ( sorta simulates a spring at full stuff ) and hold tape to shackle ( assuming it is still hanging there) while holding shackle at a pretty good angle ( again simulateing full stuff ) this will give you the overall length your spring should be for the shackle you are using. I held my shackles at just barely past 45% and the tape said 45 center to center IIRC.
Oh , the Alcans are a hair wider than the fj springs.
And , if you screw up and springs are to long you can add 4.5" shackles to cure and get a little lift which you will want if running 36's and you order these with no lift to start with. I assume you are using 3 " shackles.
